Maintenance & Repairs - July 2006

I just graduated from Arizona Automotive Institute with an associates degree in Automotive Autotronics, but have pretty much a lifetime experience with autos, as my father's a certified master mechanic.

I've gotten approved for a job with a Dodge dealership here in Albuquerque, New Mexico working on their heavy line, more specifically transmissions, and tomorrow I go to discuss my employment with them and negotiate wages. I've opted to start out hourly until I get the hang of things, at which time I'll switch to flat-rate, but I'm not familiar with the pay rate in the industry and haven't found much online info about it.

Is anybody familiar with the work and pay? What should I be aiming for when I go in tomorrow?

I have a 1998 GMC Safari AWD. It worked fine before, but now it only has low gear and third gear. It had new fluid and a new filter installed 2 years ago. And it always has shifted funny between 1st and 2nd gear. It took a long time and made a clunking noise when it tried to shift. I think its an electrical problem, but im not sure. there is no metal in the pan. does anybody know the problem, or an honest transmission man?

I have a 2006 four door sedan and I want to get the windows tinted. All the windows except the windshield. What is a price range to have four door windows and the back windshield? And for anyone in Virginia - what is the darkest shade you can LEGALLY have on your car?

I have a 95 Dodge Intrepid. V6. 3.5. On 7/21 the car overheated and eventually stalled out. When I popped my hood it was steaming like mad and antifreeze or just plane water was spitting out the Radiator I believe. I put Antifreeze in it and it ran fine until it did it again last night. The exact same thing happened. I put a very long and wide peice of cardboard under the car to see if it was a leak. It WAS NOT. My car also is missing the A/C belt. Could that be the problem? If not, what could it be?

Note: When it overheats, I put water in it and it cools it down for a small amount of time. Maybe it'll get me about 5 miles until it over heats again.

I want to begin restoration work on my 1964 Mustang (Early 1965).
What is the best order to proceed? Drive train, Transmission, Engine, Body, interior?
How much does a complete overhaul of engine and transmission generally run (factory specs)?

i am going to install a fuel cell in my '71 dart rather then keep wrestling w/the tank.1)am i going to need to by a new sending unit?2)the drag tanks which tend to be cheaper say-no bolts to come loose.then how the hell do you mount it?should i just stick w/the economy fuel cell and break down and buy the mounting bracket?

this car is not going to be a dragster, but eventually a low-rider

The car hesitates when trying to start and it sounds like it is trying to turn over-sometimes after a while it does and sometimes it doesnt. Also, the car idles very hard when stopped and in some cases when sitting in traffic it will stall. When on the highway it will slow down on its own, like it's dying, it loses all its power no matter how hard you push on the gas. You can only go about 35 mph in this case. What do you think is wrong with it? I do not have the money to take directly to the dealership. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give! =)
