Maintenance & Repairs - June 2006

I just had my '98 Honda Accord's engine replaced. Soon after the check engine light was back on and the car started to buck forward after idling- as if the gas wouldn't catch when the pedal was pressed. I took it back to the mechanic and he said the gasket had a leak which he would fix for free but that the oxygen sensor failed and I would have to pay. Does the sensor have anything to do with the gasket leak? And would either of these make the car buck strangely?

When I drive I hear a squeaky sound coming from the front tires. It doesn't make the sound when I brake. It is very annoying.

I also have another car problem. When I press the lock button, it makes a really wierd sound. I was wondering what that was also.

When I put my key in..sometimes I have to jiggle it for 5 minutes before it finally cranks up. If i go get a new key made..it'll work fine for a few months, but after a while it does the same thing....as if the ignition is bending the key. What is the name of the part that I stick the key in? Thats what I need..but I keep finding everything else.

It only happens after it is driven. After it sits for an hour or so and cools down it stops. It doesnt seem like its overheating. maybe the valves.

My winshiedl on my Nissan Xterra has a crack from the bottom center of the winshiled to the center of the winshield that curves to the driver's side, it is about 12" long. It is a single crack (not spidering) that started from what appears to be where a rock hit the bottom of the windshield where it meets the hood. is there a kit I can buy to repir the crack myself rather than buy a whole new windshield? if so, where can i get it and how much would it cost? Is it easy to repair otr is it a painstaking process?

I understand that it is a pain to get to the oil filter, apparently located under the exhaust manifold. Is this a job that requires crawling under the car or can the filter be reached from the hood area?

Also, are there any issues getting to the oil drain plug on this car?

Are there any components that need to be removed like a shroud?

I unbolted the water pump cover to drain the radiator, but I can't get the coolant out of the jug. It's still in the coolant passages and I can't take the motor off like that.

Help! I am desparate. My car is a nightmare! It's in the shop every month! The check engine light is always one. There is new codes every month. But the code that is always on is the spark plugs. What could be the cause of it running so rich?

My Camry is 10 years old and has 160,000 mi on it. It's been a great car. Checked the oil and it didn't even show up on the dipstick. Changed the oil in MArch. No oil on garage floor, no smoke from burning oil. Where is it going? Time for a new car or can it be fixed. Where IS that oil going?

I've changed the fuel filter after the car would only start for 5 seconds when I spray starting fluid into the intake but that didn't fix it. I had a friend spray starting fluid in while I try to start the car and sometimes (like one out of 5 tries) it seems to start and the engine revs up with the pedal being pressed down but then it just dies like something's cutting out or getting a shut off signal or something like that. Is it a relay or is the pump failing or is there something else I need to look at. I've got a Chilton's manual but the pics are useless for locating actual electrical parts and connection locations. I don't have a lot of tools or money so I hope someone has had the same trouble and can step me through the fix. Any advice welcome. Thanks!
