sounds like you blown a head gasket and the anti-freeze is getting into the exhust manifold, that why you see white smoke.also check the oil to see if you got antifreeze in the oil.if so take off the head and take it to a machine shop and have it ground down and put a new gasket on it and change the oil and filter.good luck.

additional

you can have a friend do a compression test on it to make sure it is a blown head gasket..A shade tree mechanic can probably do the job..It is a job that should be done right though..The motor will have under powered sound when it runs not pulling with much power not reeving up like you are used to...It could probably be repaired for the price of a head gasket if head didn't get warped if it didn't get too hot you might be ok just changing gasket but it is a gamble ..Most would recommend getting head checked or shaved to make sure.. When head is put back on it needs to be torqued to specs in a exact pattern I wouldn't let someone do it that didn't these things or how to do them

If it's running poor and blowing alot of white smoke .It blew a head gasket as older hippie and Linc said..I'd get it fixed soon and not run it like that ..It's hard on the head..

If it was white smoke with a bit of blue, I think you smoked your motor. Just white smoke, or steam from your car overheating would be from the rad area, and this can go under the car. You should have a compression test done on the car to see if you really did a lot of damage. Check you rad for fluids. If you need more fluids add only while car is running with rad cap off, fill until you see the fluid inside flowing, put cap back on. When rad becomes under pressure again you will be able to see if you have any leaks in the rad. Your question is lackin some information that would be needed to better help you. Good Luck

White smoke in the exhaust is water in teh combustion chamber. Could be as simple as a bad head gasket but not likely. Most likely have a crack in the cylinder head. Depending on the car and engine, it's not a teribly complicated fix but can be pricey depending on parts availability.

Sounds like you blew a head gasket to me. Coolant is leaking into the cylinders and is getting burned, hense the white smoke.

Depending on the car, it can be a pricey repair.... and a major one at that. The engine has to be half torn down.

Sounds like the head gasket, the white smoke was probably steam from the radiator

The same exact thing happened to my van yesterday. Stupid car.

Chech your oil and if it is a milky colour then it is your head/gasket. Hopefully for your money's sake it may be just your thermastat, get that checked before wasting alot of money as they are cheap and can cause overheating if they are blocked. have you checked your water/coolant in the radiator for leaks. radiator hoses can have holes in them and need replacing. Also have your water pump checked out.

It is probably the head gasket, or it could be a cracked head. Both will cost lots.
