2001 merc villager, a/c was blowing warm air. i took it to a local repair shop that advertised "a/c service." the guy felt the warm air & said i needed freon. he added freon but the air remained warm. he would gun the engine while adding freon, & then we saw smoke coming from the engine, specifically from the a/c compressor. that smoke was not there before. he said i needed new compressor & so i had him replace mine for $495. when done, i drove home with cool air for about 15 min & then the air turned warm. i immediately took it back, told of the problem, & another guy added more freon. air temp was 60 deg out of vents. drove it home w/cold air, then 15 min later, i saw light smoke shooting from the vents, more so when i accelerated. i gun the engine & saw white smoke from my exhaust as well. that stopped, but then the a/c went back to warm air. i didnt see the mechanic do the work, so i cant say if he checked for leaks before doing any work. any explanation for all that happened?
