I have a 98 Jetta (gasoline engine). When the outside temp gets hotter than 85, I have to keep turning the ignition repeatedly in order for it to start. All it does is click, sometimes it may try to turn over, but generally a click or nothing at all happens when I turn the key. Eventually, after 10 to 15 tries it will start up and run just fine. All of the electrical components come on during this, but it's going to be a long summer if I don't get this fixed. Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be causing this?

It sounds like you have a bad starter drive. Check the voltage at the starter to be sure that the selinoid is working. Does it have a selinoid on the starter or somewhere else? Where is the clicking sound coming from? If you have voltage to your starter when the key is turned (yes, it takes 2 people) then you should replace the starter. If it's not there, it will depend on the selinoid. If it's on the starter, you should replace the starter. If not, then just replace the selinoid.

First, check the Water in your Battery, you will see the level indicators inside, I just cover the Plates with "Distilled" water. Bring level to the bottom of the measure then it leave the Vent slots on side open, you will see when you look in. Clean the top of Battery off before you open, not need dirt falling in.
Then all I know is it may be the Starter Being hot drags or something and after it cooler it OK.
But, it sounds like the Battery is low on water, it could be getting old and need replaced, but, check the water first. Distilled water only about a Dollar for a Gallon, should be plenty.

It might be over-heating.....maybe you should try putting cold water on the engine and then try starting it up. It should help at least a little.
