Insurance & Registration - August 2007

I've been on my father's insurance plan since I was 16. Now, a graduate from college and living in NYC, I no longer need a car. While I do occasionally take trips home and enjoy a car ride by myself, I think it would be a better for my father financially if I took my name off my dad's policy (no speeding tickets, only one car accident when I was 16 which didn't raise insurance premium, but nonethless). My father wants to keep me on because he knows how much I love driving when I get home on those few occasions where I do and I need to be insured (he's good like that). However, I know it would save my dad money if I was taken off... and since living in the city, it seems like a sound decision. My question is whether it's possible to remove my name from the policy without my father's permission. Also... if I ever want to use a rental car, is the insurance the company provides enough to cover me, or do they require supplemental insurance, as well?

Are you supposed to tell your insurance company when you pay off your car, even if you don't think you are going to adjust your coverage? The credit union received the final payment yesterday. They said they would send the title in 12 to 14 days. I would like to keep my collission insurance for awhile yet. According to Kelly Blue Book, my car is still worth $6100. Thank you.

After a recent accident, I purchased my first car. On my old car, I was an additional driver on a policy with my mom. My mom was the lien holder and the only one on the title. This was our only car. I purchased the new car. Can I keep my old insurance and still be on as an additional driver if we still plan on sharing the car? I would hate open a new account. I love my insurance co. But what are the real rules? I know the cost will go up. Its a more expensive car.

We stopped at the light, we were headed left, there was plenty of time for us to make the turn. A semi in the far lane sped up because the light turned yellow. We had almost made it when he slammed into the right side of our van. The officer didnt find anyone at fault because he only questioned 2 witnesses (there were more). One witness stated we ran a red light and the other stated the semi did. (noone ran a red light, ours was green and his was yellow). Our van was totaled and we didnt have full coverage. He lost a piece of his bumper. Is there any chance of his insurance paying for the damages even though the officer didnt find him at fault? Should we get an attorney?

I was issued a speeding ticket while the cops were doing Lidar training. (So, the officer running the Lidar was a newbie, and the officer that actually issued me the citation was more experienced.) Will this fact help me if I decide to contest it in court? Or should I not even bother? (They said I was going 7 mph over the speed limit.) This occured in Kansas. If it's not worth fighting in court, how do I go about trying to get it reduced, or cutting a deal, so it does not go on my insurance record? Thanks.

My insurance is under my mom's name so when it canceled, I didn't know about it. My boyfriend got a no insurance ticket in my car because I forgot to put an updated card in my jeep. Now, I thought I still had insurance so I went up to my insurance agency and told them what happened and they printed up another card for me. They didn't tell me that it had canceled the previous day, the day he got the ticket. So he took it up to the police station and the ticket was dropped. Suddenly, he gets a court date in the mail saying he has to show up or he's going to jail. I went up to clear it up with my insurance agency and that's how I found out it had canceled. I was told by another insurance agent that since they didn't tell me it was canceled and printed out another card that it was still valid and the ticket should be dropped. Anyone know what I can do?

NY
I know I sound ridiculous. Over 2.5 years ago I moved, and left my car at a relatives with plates etc. (Never turned plates in). NO Insurance either, last registerd in 04' . I just moved back and would like to sell and/or register and insure the car again. I checked my drivers license - it is valid with no suspensions or restrictions etc. Since I left all of these items (wich I think legally should have been up to date) what do I do now ? what can I expect when I go to the DMV?Can I sell it with out it being registered ?( I have title)
Thank you.

I was in an accident that was not my fault. My car is now in the shop and it's taking longer to fix than expected. I called my insurance company to inquire about a rental car - and they said that I don't have rental car insurance. Shouldn't the other person's insurance pay for it - and shouldn't my insurance take care of this for me and then get reimbursement from them? I feel like I'm getting the run around.

So about 7-10 years ago, my bf got a series of citations - not moving violations. He couldn't afford to pay the fines, didn't go to court and ended up getting multiple "indefinate suspensions". He now has the $$ to make good and on his driving records it says the amount to pay and to respond call or write to the townships. What does he need to do exactly??? It doesn't make sense to just send a check, and if he calls....WHAT DOES HE ASK FOR?
Any help would be appricated! Thanks!

on insurance websites where they do lots of quotes from different insurers, the question they ask bout your licence is what type is it, ie full or provisional or full or automatic etc and how long have you had your licence. On the norwich union website, it specifies that it wants you to say how long you have held a licence from the time you got your provisional licence. The others dont say whether this is what they are asking or not. Ive had a provisional licence for 18 years, but when I pass my test (hopefully this month) I will then have had a full licences for less than a year. What answer should I give for the question, how long have you held a licence? Its not clear on the websites....

Just had a car crash that wasn't my fault (another car pulled out in front of me from a side road), my cars a write off, and me and my girlfriend (who was passenger) both have neck pain and stiffness due to the whiplash. What kind of compensation should I ask for/expect for this? The insurance company is already dealing with getting me a hire car and talking to the garage about the state of my car, but I think the pain and inconvenience of this injury should be compensated for. For the whiplash, how much money should my insurance company reasonably ask the other parties insurance company for?

I am 17-years-old and three months ago i was in a car accident involving a drunk driver. I was on my way home from work, and the drunk driver went through a stop sign, hit the car door on my side, and put my car head on into a telephone pole. My car was totaled. The accident was clearly his fault, and he was charged.. with driving witout a licensee, failure to yield a stop sign, driving under the influence, and leaving the scene of an injured accident..... he unfortunatly did not have insurance, so of course, my insurance took all the crap... i did have uninsured motorist however; anyway, i got money for a car already, and money to pay off all my medical bills and everything, but nothing for missing work or pain and suffering yet.. about what can i expect for pain and suffering??? and who is going to be the one who sends me this money???
