i broke down on the motorway in the slow lane but it was leading onto a slip road, i triedd in vain to go to the hard shoulder but could not. i put my hazard lights on, i had no phone to call ploice. i didnt want to abandon car, i took my daughter and myself to safety. but a car smashed into it with force. my car is a right off so is the other car. i am worried , ive had such a shock. the other driver was ok. im insured third party my insurance has said its a no fault. but is it mine for causing a hazard in the first place.

I am not ready to purchase a car, however I figured if I started paying car insurance now, when I am ready to purchase a car I wont have to pay so much to start the policy. Is this true?

Someone borrowed my car and got into a minor accident. Turns out they have a suspended license :( He told the other driver he would pay for damages, just give him 2 estimates. He didn't get the other drivers info at all (grrr!) .. only gave him info from my insurance card and his cell number. A few days go by and no contact from other driver. Today my insurance company calls me asking for details! :( Now what do I do!? Can this still be settled without the insurance company?? I've never had to deal with insurance companies before so I dont know what to tell them and I want to minimize any trouble I may be in now thanks to friend who borrowed car!

two claims? I was rear-ended & I filed against the other person's insurance (that person unfortunetly didn't survive & along with my neck/back pain the doctor said I am going through post-dramatic stress syndrome) My car was totaled & I got a rental car today, got it for 70 days. I was told by a friend that I can have two seperate claims, he said not to settle on the medical part yet but I could settle to get what the car is worth so that I can pay the loan off. I don't know if this is true & the insurance company is so hard to get a hold of so if anyone knows this answer please let me know. I don't want to get the bad end of the deal. Thanks.

my son was thinking about buying a car and moving out. He is under 25 and is worried that if he moves out and buys the car under his name with his new address that he is going to get nailed heavily for insurance.

I live in arkansas. The law here states that after I've taken my permit test, and wait 30 days, then I can take my drivers test, THEN, I can officially have a drivers license. Is there any possible way that I can obtain a license before that six month period? I have taken the permit test already but the permit that I first got expired before I could renew it. They said that if I could show that I still had the permit then I would be ok. but it's been a year since I got it and I can't find it anywhere. Could I possibly get another copy of it somewhere?

I've been getting alot of different answers about the cost of personalized license plates. So I was wondering what is the cost of one? Is it a certian amount per year or per month?

Thanks for any answers!

I saw a new idea and i am tempted.

Has any of you got paid by allowing an advertiser to place an advertising message on your car and get paid for it.

are there any requirements?

In April of this year, I lost my California DL so I went to the DMV to get a replacement. At that time, I was told that I had an outstanding ticket (for expired registration) and if I didnt pay the ticket by May that my license may be suspended. SInce the fine for the ticket was over $1000 and I needed all the money I had for an upcoming move to NJ, I opted not to pay the ticket before I relocated. Will this outstanding ticket/possible California license suspension keep me from being able to get NJ license?

I was cited in the mail as having an unsafe lane change on the highway a month ago. I was traveling about 90km on the freeway when I switch into the far right hand SLOW lane. A sec. later I heard screeching of brakes &saw in my mirror a car hitting the ditch and flipping. Witnesses, who stopped, saw the whole thing & gave their details to the cops. I waited for the cops further down & they just took my license & reg. of the rental car.*(There was no contact between the cars). I think the other car was either not paying attention to me or was going to fast but cop said it was difficult to say. I did turn my signal on and made the proper check before. Either way I have an attorney of the other party trying to contact me. Now in my case what is next? I did contact my Insurance Company to explain the scenario but they have not heard anything yet. I live in Canada and the incident happened in the US.I really am stressed about this as I have never been in this type of situation.

My gf's son was in an accident last Saturday; not his fault. Other driver pulled out in front of him and police have assigned full liability to that driver. His truck is a 86 Nissan D21 pickup and the damage is pretty bad. Estimate so far is about $3800 to fix and www.kbb.com lists this vehicle's value at $2100 (actually had to use an 87 to compare; they don't have older). Clearly the insurance is going to total the vehicle.

Yesterday we finally got the rental car (son is driving her car). Today the insurance company is telling her that she can only have the car till Saturday.

I'm thinking she keeps the car until the matter is resolved. That is, she has a check in hand for the market value of the vehicle or it is fixed.

Secondly: the check won't cover fixing the vehicle yet it's a great little truck and worth fixing. Engine appears to be fine as does the chassis. Can we sue the driver for the difference between the settlement and the repair?

kelly blue book is what they use, but do they use "suggested retail", "trade in", or "private party" value?
and how do you determine what condition it's in? is that the condition it was in BEFORE the accident?
thanks!

Let's say my uncle has a car which is insured under his name. He let me drive occasionally to here and there, but my name is not on his insurance. I am just wondering what would be the conseqence if I get caught by police (eg. speeding) and police found out that my name is not on the insurance. Thank you for your time.

It's been a long time since I had a drivers license - didn't renew it from moving to NYC over 15 years ago. Now I need a license as I spend a lot of time outside of the city. I'd love to know if I can get my license in upstate NY and still have it registered with my NYC address. I think it would be easier than having to deal with the NYC DMV. I'd appreciate any and all insights. Thanks in advance. - TS

I was hit from behind while at a stop light (in California). I did everything I was supposed to (stopped and waited). This lady slams into me. We exchange info and she accpets responsibilty. Now her insurance (Progressive) claims they can't pay the entire cost of the repairs and a rental for me while mine is the shop. This due to her policy only covers up to $5,000.00. They told me I have to go through my insurance (which means $500.00 copay and no rental car help) and my insurance would get the $5000.00 and no more. Which means I am paying around $2000.00 for someone slamming into me when I shouldn't have to pay anything.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it worth getting a Lawyer and pressing charges?

Does anyone know what states don't care about a suspended lisence in Massachusetts? I know that all of New England is linked but what about California or other states or other countries. Any input is greatly appreciated.

My husband hired a car at weekend and while he was driving, he managed to get a stone chip in the windscreen. The hire company has told him he needs to pay £503 for a new windscreen (there was a £600 excess on the insurance policy)
Does hire car insurance differ from normal car insurance? If he had cracked his own windscreen, he would have only had to pay the first £50 as most policies offer windscreen protection don't they? Should he have to pay this?
Thanks for any answers

The RV is located 800 miles away. I paid the deposit and will bring the balance with me. Is it legal to drive it back prior to title transfer and registration? Also, will I be able to insure it prior to these steps?

Six weeks ago, I bought a used motorcycle via eBay, from North Carolina (I live in California). When I went to register the vehicle, I was told by DMV that it does not comply with CA emissions regulations and cannot be registered in this state. So now what do I do? Is the seller obligated to take it back? The title and registration is still in his name, but the financing for it is now in my name.
