That depends. If the car is designed that way, it's a convertible. If the car is simply missing its roof, I'd call that "totaled". ;)

Well, actually it's a bit more complicated then that. True. Most are called convertibles. The Germans call Convertibles "Cabriolet".
There is also a Targa, which is when the top is actually removed and usually put in the trunk.

That depends where you are and who you are...could be a convertible, topless or roofless...or in the case of a low overhead object, totaled!
