It's been a long time since I had a drivers license - didn't renew it from moving to NYC over 15 years ago. Now I need a license as I spend a lot of time outside of the city. I'd love to know if I can get my license in upstate NY and still have it registered with my NYC address. I think it would be easier than having to deal with the NYC DMV. I'd appreciate any and all insights. Thanks in advance. - TS

As long as you are in the same state, you can take your test at any DMV. The DMV is part of the state, not city, government, and as such, you can go to any office!

ANY NEW YORK STATE MOTOR VEHICLE OFFICE. Bring a utility bill as proof of residency--and a phone bill also to prove your address. Birth certificate must be an original--NOT a copy. A passport if you have one. Got to prove who you are and where you live--it's policy
