His rates will be high but shouldn't be astronomical so long as steers clear of sporty like cars.
Unfortunately, this is the way it's going to have to be done since he has to legally register and insure it at his residence (address).

Moving out and new address is irrelevant. How much he pays for insurance is going to depend on his age, driving record, credit score, and most importantly, the type of car he's driving. If it's a new car, he's going to get nailed heavily for insurance.

This is part of growing up--we all do the move out thing--paying insurance is part of our life---it will force him to save and not spend money foolishly. Tell him to get going--move out--take care of his car and drive carefully. You help him more by letting him go...what does he learn hanging home--using you to buy a car and insurance. You know he'll waste the money on silly stuff if he stays home...so wish him luck.

He probably will, but regardless, he has to get his own insurance sometime, and when that time comes it will be expensive. I would say if he is over 18 and moving out then he should get his own policy.
The best way to find the lowest price is to just shop around. Go to http://www.auto-insurance-knowledge.com/24-hour-insurance-quote-auto.html
This will compare all companies in your area and find you the lowest price.
You can save money by also taking drivers training, increasing your deductible or dropping collision coverage altogether.
i hope that helps

Either way, the insurance for him will be high, whether he's living on his own or still at home with you. The amount of 'nailing' will depend more on where he lives (neighborhood, not apartment versus mom and dad), what kind of car he gets, as well as his age.

The car will be the main determination on his rates. Depending on what state you live in you can go online and compare rates on different car models. His driving history is the second determination, then his age.

I think he will have to bite the bullet on this. If the car is in his name, the insurance will be higher. If he moves out, he cannot be on your policy (and the car in your name).

yup. It will be cheaper for him to be on your policy living with you. but if he's going to move out then that's what he has to do.
