In April of this year, I lost my California DL so I went to the DMV to get a replacement. At that time, I was told that I had an outstanding ticket (for expired registration) and if I didnt pay the ticket by May that my license may be suspended. SInce the fine for the ticket was over $1000 and I needed all the money I had for an upcoming move to NJ, I opted not to pay the ticket before I relocated. Will this outstanding ticket/possible California license suspension keep me from being able to get NJ license?

A suspended license in any state equals a suspended license in all states. Yes, if you apply in NJ they will find, and honor, the CA suspension.

Yes, you need to pay the ticket in CA before you can get a NJ license. If you do not tell NJ about the suspension, and they find out later, you can be charged with fraud.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to get a license in NJ. The network will have your name and fine on it, so when you apply, it will pop up. You need to pay the fine, or you could be facing jail time somewhere down the line. I'm sure by now there is a warrant out.

The states pretty well work together now in the computer age. When you apply for a license in New Jersey, you will have to answer the question, "are your license suspended in any other state"? You would also have to turn in your Calif license at that time. Many checkpoints. No way to get around it.

Computer links will spoil your chances. You will be asked, in NJ, if you have ever had a license in another State. If you lie, and get caught, you could end up in court. You'll probably get caught anyways when you apply for a license and they put your name in the database.

Yes it will! And it'll take NJ about 5 minutes to check it out.
You don't cure a ticket by walking away from it.

YES---no state allows bad drivers to just jump the borders--get a new license --then screw up again. Welcome to new jersey--I live here in New Brunswick. I used to live in Fairfield Cal....Solano County. Drop a note-
