The sort of prat who doesn't want his neighbours to see how old his pile of crap is. It's called snobbery.

Why can't we be issued with a number plate on the day we pass the driving test, This number would then be kept for life and moved from car to car. If you own more than one car the plate would be moved to the one you are driving. Lots of admin saved, easy driver identification for police, no age related plates making you feel good/bad. Seems like the ideal solution and would eliminate so called 'prats'.

I can not understand it, but then I find it difficult to remember my own Reg Number so perhaps they have the same trouble if they do not have their initials on it.
What gets up my nose is the clowns who have the lettering marked in an unofficial manner or a judicious rivet to make the plate fit their initials. The spacing of letters and Numbers it regulated by Statutory Instrument I cannot remember the year or number but it has the full force of law. You can have your personalised number plate confiscated because the number it always remains the property of the Department of Transport or whatever it is called now

Lol, about a month ago I was in the car with my mum and brother and we noticed a guy next to us had a red lexus and the number plate 'B199 EGO' which was obviously 'big ego'. I filmed it on my phone because I thought it was hilarious! How narcissistic can one person be? Shame he was a 50 odd year old, overweight, bald headed t**t!

The sort of prat with lots more money than you.
Do I detect a slight hint of jealousy here?
You need to chill out a bit.
A Cheaper war to do it is to change your name by deed poll to X123ABC

people can do whatever they want with thier money.
it is true that the private number plates stand out from the other cars. They must do, you seem to notice them.
My car isn't crap, fortunately i don't have a private number plate either, i don't know how i'd cope with your insults.

I wonder at the sense of those who pay to get a plate that spells their name, I only give my name, real name, to those who I meet properly. Wouldn't want to drive around flashing it to all.

I must admit I wonder at those who buy a plate to show their name. Why? Can't they remember what they're called?
