I'm getting my 1st used car, what should I steer clear of?

Hello, I currently own a 2004 chevrolet aveo with 90,000 miles on it (I drive 32,000 miles a year) and owe about $5,200 dollars on it and need to get out of it, as its already giving me some costly problems... I went to a scion dealership and they offered me $3,700 dollar trade in value on it and i'd be getting into a new scion XD for $18,978 dollars out the door at 6.9 interest rate.. if i get it, im about $1500 bucks upside down...monthly payment is $350 a month

Now, my friend called me and said his boss wants to sell his 2006 ford pick up truck with 27,000 miles on it for $14,000 dollars... it's a 6 cylinder and right now i drive a 4 cylinder and do about 100 dollars a week in gas... so i could imagine i'd be spending 150 dollars a week with the truck... ill have to get a loan from the bank and hopefully its at least 6.9 interest like the dealership offered... and i could probably get at least $5000 on my current aveo.... truck monthly payment: maybe $250

which car should I take?

and I can't remember the name of it. She said she was able to pick out exactly what car she wanted, color and extras included, and the website allowed dealerships in her area to negotiate on price. Has anyone out there heard of it? Please help.

i am looking at a suburban and plan on pulling a boat and possibly a camper should i buy the 4 wheel drive or just the 2? I was always just taught the more you put on a car the more chance it will break down but i just want to know about the newer suvs today

I purchased a newer vehicle and realized afterward that I cannot afford this. I went back to the dealership and was basically told that there is nothing that they can do for me. Isn't there some type of law that allows a person to change their mind on any major purchase? I always thought you had 3 business days to change your mind.

Getting married in a couple of months. With babies coming shortly thereafter, I am thinking of selling my car and getting a used 4 cylinder in the $10,000 to $12,000 range. I owe about 5,000 less on loan than I could get wholesale.

I was turned down by Capital One Auto Finance and can't seem to figure out why. We've had 2 auto loans thru them and paid on time everytime. We have one that is current, the other was traded in. We also have a credit card that we pay on time. Our credit scores are around 620, which I know is not the best, but it is better than last October when they were around 580 and they financed us then?!? The only thing I can think of is that we had an issue at my bank where the bank placed a stop payment on my car note by mistake, which meant my payment was like 15 days past due. Totally not my fault as I paid the darn thing 4 times during this month and only one went thru the bank after repeated calls to both capital one and the bank. I think this may have something to do with it because when I applied my payment was showing past due, even though I paid it. Anyone think of a reason for the denial. Or know how I should handle? I've called and all they'll say is they've sent a letter.

I sold a car the other day to a couple in their 20's. I listed in the newspaper that it had some rust and had a leaking power steering pump. Now they call back saying they want their money back because there's a rust hole they found and they got an estimate for $1,000. When they were looking at it I had gone in the house assuming they checked it really good. The guy was checking lights etc. I assumed they had read it had rust,etc. My husband says give them $200.00 back. I put "AS-IS" on the title. I feel bad because they're young. The car runs excellent and they drove it around. I don't want to give the money back because I put it as "AS-IS".

I need to come up with my "give me this price and these terms otherwise I'm going to another dealership" figure, but I don't know what exactly a reasonable figure would be. This is my ideal proposal:

-36 mo/12k mile lease
-$0 money down
-Payoff my trade in (Galves values it at $16k, I owe $20k, Ive gotten trade-in offers as high as $18k for it)
-About a $350 a month payment

If I go to the dealership with these figures, will I get laughed out of the place or do you think they'll sign me up right there?
