I would definitely go with 4 wheel drive. But Keep in mind, 4 wheel drive can only be used on icy/snowy conditions. Unless you use it for a straight line pull. You cannot use 4 wheel drive on dry or just wet ground and make turns cause you will damage the differential.

THe 4 wheel drive will work wonders when you pull that boat out of the lake up the ramp. you could live with two wheel. but then in the cooler months you get the advantage of 4 wheel drive on the snow, if it snows where you are.

Oh ya a properly maintained vehicle doesn't usually break down...

deffinetly four wheel drive if you plan on towing anything. most suvs have the option now of putting it in 2 or 4 wheel drive with just a switch 4 wheel drive wont make your car break down it just drives the car with all four wheels instead of just the front two.

Go with four wheel drive because of the possibility of backing into sand, mud or fine shale to launch your boat. Please don't worry about the differential front or rear you absolutely will not tear it out if you need it during the winter time in snow covered roads or any other reason.
I've pushed-off Sprint Cars on a local dirt track for years in four wheel drive with a little 4.3 98 Chevy S-10 with out a whimper.
