I purchased a newer vehicle and realized afterward that I cannot afford this. I went back to the dealership and was basically told that there is nothing that they can do for me. Isn't there some type of law that allows a person to change their mind on any major purchase? I always thought you had 3 business days to change your mind.

It doesn't matter what state you live in, once you sign papers, it's your car. There is no cooling off period unless granted by the dealership. '3 day right to rescind' does not apply to vehicle purchases. I'm sorry, but unless the financing is rejected, there is nothing you can do. Good Luck.

Ha! You should have thought of this before you bought it. You have no right to change your mind and return a vehicle. Understand? You didn't buy a pair of pants at Walmart, you bought a car. The 3-day right to cancel you mention applies only to in-home sales. Think vacuum cleaners or aluminum siding. Car deals are F-I-N-A-L. One reason is because vehicles lose value and the car is worth less today than when you bought it, even if it was a few days ago. Plus, unless you paid cash for the vehicle, a lender is involved and you most certainly owe more than you could sell the vehicle for.

You signed a contract and agreed to the terms. You should have known before you signed if you could afford it or not. Nobody had a gun to your head to make you sign the contract. If you are going to have a problem making the payments, start now before it gets too late. Get a part-time job or some other extra income going so you can make the payments. Anything you do to get rid of the car will cost you money out of your pocket, and could damage your credit. You made a commitment, now make good on your obligation.

It depends on the State that you live it. You'll need to read the contract that you SIGNED!

In California, the minute you sign the contract, the car is yours and you can not return it. California specifically states "There is NO Cooling off period"

Check your state laws for your situation.
