I have apx. $15,000 to spend on a new to lightly used car. What would be the best bang for my buck? I'm not looking for a truck/van. Just a reliable, somewhat powerful, safe car.

I would probably be getting about $3,000 for my trade in as well. So I could go higher than 15K.

Asking here is a good start. I would suggest doing some of your own research so you know what type of car you want. That will give you an idea of prices and availability. If you see a car you like, try to look up reviews of it, you will be able to find several on the internet.

For the amount of money you are willing to spend i would suggest getting a japanes model. At that price, they are better value than american and european cars. The toyota corolla, nissan sentra, mazda 3 and even the civic are all good cars you can get within this range. They are all reliable and economical as well as being safe.

It depends on what size car you are looking for. You could get a new Focus, or a used Lincoln town car.

Ford has the new Taurus, that is basically a Volvo. But the prices will be out of your range.

You could get a lightly used 07 Taurus with all the options for that price. That should cover all of your needs. It has good mileage, size, durability, and the options to make the drive enjoyable.

You'll just have to look around and see what appeals to you.

I wouldn't buy any car, on my first visit to a dealer, I would want to think about it over night. Make sure you are making the right decision and getting the best price. When you buy on impulse, you may not be getting the model you want, or paying too much for it.

Good luck.

If you don't mind foreign then a honda civic is safe, reliable and great on gas. If you want domestic then maybe a cobalt or something along those lines.
