In Europe you insure the car. Providing you give them the car papers anyone can drive the car. A green card comes automatically with the policy.
In UK you have to answer loads of questions, some of which are ridiculous, & you pay extra for everything including foreign trips & green cards.
I was even told by one company that because I work in the town centre I was not insured to drive in the town centre even if it was to visit the supermarket on non work related business.
I found this absurd. I cannot understand the logic behind this unless it is just another way to make money while minimising the conditions that would result in a payout.

I have a 93 lexus es300. Its burning oil pretty bad, smoke billowing up through the hood, and noticeable when stopped at a stoplight. Its not smoking out the exhaust. Ive had this problem for about 6 months, though it just started getting gradually worse, with noticable oil burning smoke. I brought it into a shop, and they told me the problem was the oil pan gasket. They replaced the gasket, but it didnt fix anything. When I look at the engine, there is very light oil leakage from the top of the engine(oil cap) all the way to the bottom. The majority of oil leakage is coming from right side of the engine(looks like from the cam seal) and also from the middle of the manifold. I assume the leakage is probably a combination of problems: valve cover gasket, cam/crankshaft seals, possibly valve seals? I know for sure its not a head gasket problem, and I'm betting that its not something major, but I'm not sure. Anyone else have any ideas on what it could possibly be? What should I replace? Thanks.

I decided not to renew my Washington State motorcycle license. So, I lost it. I believe I have to test again to get it. Is that true? My main question is... if I decide to ride w/o a motorcycle endorsement, is it a fix-it ticket or a moving violation??

I have a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer SUV and it has been having some sort of ignition/wiring-type problem for some time now. I just got the truck out of the shop for transmission work, this is all I need right now... for the last month or so at least, when I go to start the truck, it may start normally or it may start sluggishly, not quite sputtering, but certainly dragging into the ignition with a slight struggle.

The cherry to this lovely pie was this morning, when I finished putting some gas in the empty tank and went to start the car. It fired up fine but the meters (ALL of them - speed, gas, temp, etc) were suddenly all stuck at zero. The orange hands are still dead at zero and the electrical display underneath (for mileage) is black/"off". I made it home just fine, but with no meters - like driving an "off" car! Please help! What is wrong and how much to fix?

When I remove the oil fill cap, you can feel the pressure blowing! out of the hole. I have been told that this is common on these motors, but no one knows why. The clock reads 100k miles and it is NOT using oil.

Also it has developed a mild whine at startup when cold. This seems to be coming from the accesory drive end of the motor. Any thoughts on these items would be appreciated.

Will putting in a new battery that is more powerful (cold cranking amps) then the stock battery cause the starter solenoid contacts to burn? Even though the battery has more amperage available won't the starter just use the amount of amperage it requires to turn the motor and no more.

I've heard of many auto insurances that don't want to pay their customers after accidents because of some stupid little reasons.

I'm shopping around for auto insurance, and I'm curious what happens if I slightly underestimate the number of miles driven a year. Does anybody have experience whether they check this after an accident and give people problems if the number was exceeded? If they do, I will have to overestimate this number just in case, even though I know I will probably not drive that much.

Thank you for your help!
