I'm thinking about trying rubber spacers in the fronts coils of my 2wd to level the front to the back. Has anyone tried it? Did it work good? How long did it last? How was the ride affected? Where did you get yours? If you answer all 5 questions you get best answer...

I've tried it. It does not work well at all because a 360 degree spacer will only raise the spring rate 35 - 45 lbs. The spring rubbers are only good for 6 mounths or less. The ride will be very slightly stiffer.
You can get them from either Mr. Gasket Co. or from performancebodies.com under the Afco brand name. Now remember, these spring rubbers can only be used if you have a 5" or 5.5" diameter coil spring.

Now for the bad news, the coil spring absolutely must be removed to install these spring rubbers.

For that much work go to Advance Auto to get exact replacement coil springs under the TRW brand name.

If you have an AC-Delco distributor close by they have a very complete coil spring catalog which tells the coil diameter, free height, installed height, and most importantly spring rate per inch of spring travel.

This is the very best route as you can compare your standard springs (specs. will be in their catalog) with something with 50 -100 lbs. higher spring rate. That small increase will get your truck back up in the front where it should be. Their coil spring book is loaded with charts of information. Be absolutely sure the overall spring diameter is the same as yours, plus the free standing height which can be plus or minus an inch.

Most importantly is the spring rate and coil diameter. Spring wire diameter isn't a problem as they increase or decrease a few thousanths. You will find the larger wire diameter always has a higher spring rate. Just be sure the wire diameter is no smaller than your standard coils.

Rubber Spacers

I'm getting braces and spacers this month. Braces I've heard don't hurt that bad. I can't really give you an exact number cuz I don't have them yet but everyone I've talked to has said they aren't that bad. It's just a bit of pressure when you get them on and your teeth will be a bit sore after getting them on and after tightenings. I'm just going by what I've been told right now because like I said I haven't gotten them yet. Not untill the 25 :) Spacers do not hurt at all. They just feel like a popcorn kernel stuck in your teeth. They take those off when you get the braces on because they are just there to make space for the wire that goes around your back molars. I don't know about rubber bands because I don't have them and I'm not getting them anytime soon.

well iahve used rubber spacers, they are not easy to insert! you have to lift the front end so that it picks up the sprints, and the thing is you wont be sure if its level since the spacers are so thick...they work but ar liable to pop out sometimes if it takes a good punch.they lasted a while in fact the ride was affected...seemed to pull to one side harder whin i hit a hole or bump...this is what i would do..........
go to junk yard get used ones, less than 20 $ JUST YOU WOULD HAVE TO PROBABLY TAKE THEM OFF..
or instead of the rubber spacers..there is this tool..
they go in between the springs and have bolts on them anyhow it give you the ablilty to lift or lower the car, and be able to adjust the height..check withyour local car shop for these things.good luck be careful

braces- on scale of 10 i'd say like a 5. they really don't hurt you'll just feel some pressure when u get them on and tightened. ur mouth might be sore for up till a week it all depends on how much ur teeth moved. by sore i mean it only hurts when you try to chew. stick to soups and things when u first get them on. spacers- i don't remember i had mine when i was really little. rubber bands-do u mean the color or the rubber bands that attach the bottom and top braces. if you mean the actual bands all it does is bring your bite together more. i've heard they don't hurt at all. I'm prob. gettin these next time i go. now don't be scared!! the worst part of getting them on is them actually prepping your teeth. they clean them with something that tastes like sand, and put stuff that smells like vinegar on them. Also remember to brush your teeth. if you don't you get nasty food stuck in and your teeth could turn funny colors it happened to my friend they won't go away. as long as u brush at least 2 times a day ur fine! Good luck with your new braces!! Hope I helped!

I am thinking of putting them on the rear springs of my Ram 1500 too help with the load put on the back when i put my 32 foot trailer on the ball. I do have a weight distribution tow kit, but the trailer tongue is so heavy it almost puts my bump stops on the axle. Will these block spacers help with that or am I just better off going with the air suspensionn route. The blocks are $10 at Auto Zone; the air suspension is $125 installed at A & K Trucks.

That's a pretty common and cheap way to raise the height on non-strut vehicles.I've used them before and was happy with the results,it didn't affect the ride very much. You need to pry the coils apart somewhat to fit them in which can be dangerous.I used a hydraulic spreader that comes with a Porter Power kit. They last forever,I bought them at Murray's auto parts.Don't expect miracles out of them, they will only give about an inch of height without stiffening the ride too much.
