99% sure it has to do something with your emission control system. Do not let this freak you out, as it can be a simple as replacing a fuel cap ;o)
To be sure to know what is going on, go to for example Autozone or Advance Autoparts and let them read your car computer. They do this for free..
It should bring up a code (or multiple) and those codes will tell you where the problem is located / what is wrong.
For example: I have a Ford Taurus from 97 and the code P0445 came up. This stands for Large Leak in EVP system, so I was OMG, here we go....
It turned out just a line from the vacuum system broke and had to be fixed.

A lot of things will cause that light to go on, like a needed tune up or oxygen sensor, or numerous sensor malfunctions.

Consult the owner's manual. It's a reminder for an engine oil change. It probably was not reset at the last service.

What part of "SERVICE ENGINE" is it that you can't understand.
You need to have it looked at or your will find out what SERVICE ENGINE means...
