I am starting to look for a used car, and have been trying to decide between a site such as Ebay (where I may travel a distance to pick up vehicle from a dealer) and Craigslist (where I would purchase locally from an individual). I have a strange question regarding purchasing a car from an individual locally:

Apart from research, inspecting the car, etc., that is suggested when purchasing a vehicle from an individual, would it make sense to change the locks and keyless remote system (fob) on a car when purchasing? I have never heard of this before, but I have this fear of a scammer perhaps selling a car locally giving one set of keys/remote, and then "stealing" the car back simply by going to where the car is parked and using another set of keys/remote?

Do most insurance companies have a time limit after they pay a claim on a auto accident on when you have to have repairs done? I have a high deductable and am between jobs right now, so I am going to have to wait a while before I can pay my part of the repair bill.

My mechanic recommended this service and I don't know if it is likely to extend the life of the transmission or not.

My wife backed into my car and crushed in the door. This happened in our driveway. Now I know my insurance company won't require a police report in this instance. We both have had accidents within the last year, so I am going to get an estimate and see if we can afford to pay for it without turning it into our insurance, because we are afraid of cancellation or increase in premium. I was just wondering how long I've got to get the estimate done?

I have a 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante, Im planning to travel with it about 300 miles. I have an oil leak from my gasket, and i have to add about quarter oil tank every week... Do you think its safe to drive with it 300 miles non stop, or will it damage my vehicle, or worst stop in the middle of the trip.

My van has been acting up periodically, it will stall out when I take my foot off the gas pedal, such as when I am slowing down or stopping, and this is the only time it will stall out, but it doesn't do it all the time, and it will start right back up after it stalls, but I have to keep my foot on the gas in order to shift it into drive to get it to get going, once it is going down the road it is fine, but when I slow down or stop it does it again... what do you think?

I have a van that has been stalling out occassionally and I took it into the mechanic last week and they had no problems with it so they could not fix it, it ran good for a couple of days and then started stalling out again, so I am taking it back tomarrow and they are going to look at it again, what if it doesn't act up... should i tell them to keep it and keep driving it until it does act up again or should i take it back and drive it myself and wait for it to act up again, which is usually the most inconvenient times..., and do mechanics charge you to drive your vehicle to see what is wrong with it?

Does anyone know what is the best ford year model to get, if I want to add 150hp on it? I heard about chips and after market parts, but I also heard you can still blow up the 6.0L engine or mess it up real bad, and the transmition will not last. Can anyone help me? What do you think is the best way to gain the extra power safely, where my engine and transmition will not fall apart in only two years. Also, I will not switch to any other truck maker.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the answer may be that they use some form of GPS, which begs the question: how did they navigate twenty years ago back when GPS was not even around?

I bought this car used 3 months ago. Since then, the engine has had to be replaced (it only had 97,000 miles on it). The daytime running lights/turn signals are all messed up (they work when they want to), and when I turn the fan on for the heater/defogger/vent/etc, it sounds like something is dying in the fan motor. With this vehicle still having fewer than 100,000 miles, is there much more that I can expect to go wrong with it in the near future? I have a Wynn's 2 year/24,0000 mile warranty, but this still is all a pain considering I just got the car the end of November.
