My wife backed into my car and crushed in the door. This happened in our driveway. Now I know my insurance company won't require a police report in this instance. We both have had accidents within the last year, so I am going to get an estimate and see if we can afford to pay for it without turning it into our insurance, because we are afraid of cancellation or increase in premium. I was just wondering how long I've got to get the estimate done?

Most likely your policy has a clause in the policy that says you must report the claim asap....failure to do so may cause the denial of the claim. You need to read your policy.

It depends on your insurance company. Some require that they are notified within one business day while others let it go up to a week. If this happened over the weekend you should be okay to go get an estimate on Monday morning and report it that day if you need to.

Your insurance company may require you to put a claim on your household insurance since it happened on your property. Check your policies for rules/exemptions before deciding. I had my agent refuse to look at the claim until I tried through my homeowner's.
