I have been told (by a bank person) to refinance my primary residence condo and then pay off the mortgage on the other condo I own and rent to a tenant. I think it is better, from a tax standpoint, to have and report rental interest expense on Schedule E rather than primary residence interest deduction on Schedule C. But maybe I am missing something important here. Any advice?

My father fell ill and asked that I cover for him and fix up a rental condo of his in Falls Church, VA. I got a contractor through a friend who was supposed to put new carpeting down, along with new linoleum tiles in the kitchen. He put the carpeting down okay, but put handprints all around the newly painted white walls. In addition, he stole the linoleum tiles I bought and put down cheap plastic kitchen flooring. He also took all the knobs and heating elements off of my stove and stole all my tools I had left behind. I don't live near VA, so I had left all these things there, including my receipts for the materials. He changed his phone number, but I still have an address for him, and as far as I know, he's probably still there. Do I have any recourse against this guy?

I ust returned from my first trip over to the US (visiting my husband's family in Texas - he's American).

I'd like to move over there, and have noticed that for the price of our little UK cottage we could have a 4 bed, 3 bathroom gated-community deluxe abode over there. I also rather like the place (sunny, and the people struck me as generally quite optimistic).

It wouldn't be for a year or two, but I'd like to know how possible it would be logistically. We have three quarters of our UK mortgage left to pay, so couldn't release the capital on it. What, if any, would be our best route? Can you recommend any books, etc? I'm rather naive over this sort of thing!

Thanks!

About 6mts ago, I got in on one of those great "ground floor" opportunities and bought a timeshare. Now I'm thinking about reselling it. The package that I got has gone up in value substantially, so there would be a small profit in it. I called the company and inquired about the process. Problem is that since the property is not finished, I don't qualify for resell help from the company. Technically, there is no timeshare property at my timeshare address. The property is not scheduled to be complete until spring 08'. Any suggestions?
