Its in brooklyn if that matters and we signed a year lease that expires november, Im worried with teh area becoming more gentrified the landlord will try to double our rent, is this legal?

No, Im not worried about him raising it mid lease, I just hate moving and am in a good location and am wondering if there is a cap he can raise it if i choose to stay there and release after my current one is expired

You should read your lease, it should tell you if the land lord can raise the rent mid lease!
