My boyfriend and I are expecting our first child this April. We've been on the search for homes here in Florida (where we are currently living) and finding it way too expensive to live. Where is an inexpensive (and safe) place in the U.S. to live?

Please keep in mind that in Camden, NJ there are homes for 14k but they are on .03 acres of land and aren't exactally safe... so I'm not looking for a place where my daughter won't be able to play in the backyard.

I have family in Delaware, Maryland and Virgina (but havn't really found inexpensive towns in those areas.)

Also, my boyfriend works in computers. Living outside of a metro area would be ideal, but can't live somewhere that would make his commute unbearable!

Thanks so much!

I've been told for residencial it's about $200 - $300 a sq ft to build a respectable but not high end home on an empty lot. What is the CHEAPEST it would it cost for a warehouse?

Just bought our first home and the monthly payments are very high. It is approx at 50% of my total income, which the pros say should be no more than 30%. Reality is now kicking in and the payments seem too high and I need some advise. I bought the home with 0 down and my rate is 7.25% (1 Loan so I am paying PMI of $245 a month) A 80/20 loan was more due to my credit. It is in the low 600's due to disputes. When should I re-finance? The reason we bought the home was because of the deal - we paid $310,000 but the tax records for 2006 appraised it at $395,000. I want to re-finance to get the 20% in equity to eliminate the PMI..but also I want a better rate. I have been in the home for 1 month...advise?

Also, what other ways can the owner screw me over? I am going through an attorney to have all of the paperwork done/registered, but I need to know of what I should add to the contract to protect myself.

I'm trying to find a way to purchase a less than $200,000 house to rent out a few rooms to friends as to live for free or cheap. My credit is okay for a 20 year old, but I just recently lost my job. Of course I'm trying to get another job right now, but how long do I need to work at my next job to be able to get a mortgage? Also, I might be able to do a nice fat down payment. So basically, I'm trying to find a way to purchase a house even with the lack of my job. Any suggestions would help!

We need to move from our current home we've rented for 10 yrs. ( Landlord is selling the house) Current rents for a three brdm. run from $1000- $1500 per month. We both have stable jobs about 65,000.00/yr combined. We only have $5500.00 in RRSPs for a downpayment. My husband has great credit and mine is okay but I'm still paying about 800.00/month in student loans. Should we try and get a mortgage or continue to rent for awhile and pay off loans and build a bigger downpayment?

So my renter contacted me about some things she wanted for the house, new carpet in bedrooms, heating, etc...and I was out of town on business but told her I would have a contractor come over when I got back in town (2 wks from her phone call) and she decided to go ahead and have people come in and do the work and then didn't pay rent, saying the money she spent on these items was used out of her pocket, therefore not paying rent. I'm sorry, but isn't that just wrong? It's my home, she doesn't have a right to make changes does she? And does anyone know when a renter makes a complaint about something needing fixing, what the timeframe I have is to comply?

I'm interested in staying in England for a year or so and I'd like to rent a flat. Is it possible to rent a place in England without a job as long as I have a lot of money as proof and the proper references? I'm not interested in locating there through a specific scheme. I'm just mainly interested in a long-term vacation but don't want to rent holiday accomodation.

In Mid-November I made an offer on a house. I at that time found out it was in forclosure. However, the homeowners were still living there and signed all the paperwork. I was told that the bank had to make all the decisions regarding this house and that it would be a while before I got any feedback on my offer. Finally in Mid January I was told they had made a counter offer(homeowners still signed the purchase agreement), and if I accepted it, the house was mine. I accepted immediately. I was to close Mid Feb (this fri) and yesterday...the title office tells my realtor that the forclosing bank was now "trying" to get the paperwork from the forclosing lawyer before it goes to the sheriff's sale. Also, it was now found that there is a second mortgage on the property that apparently no one knew about. My realtor says I have no rights in this, and that the bank is the one who has to sign the final paperwork at the closing. Any advice??

I just found out that my tenant is doing childcare out of the house I'm renting to her. There's an electrical problem, and I'm having an electrician come fix it, but she says to me she'll deduct her one days pay (from childcare) because she'll lose business that day. I never knew she did this for a living, she told me she went to school and her husband worked. What do you think? I don't think I'm responsible for her pay when she didn't even get permission to do business out of MY home that she's renting.

We are rellocating from regional Victoria (Latrobe Valley) to Melbourne whilst my partner attends university. We are currently purchasing our home and would like to know whether it would be better off to sell the property and invest the money ( for use as a deposit later on) or to keep the property and rent it out. We are unsure if we will return to the country or end up staying in the city.

I hold the title to this land & wish to owner finance it to someone. What if they build on it and then default on the note? Maybe the bank would fold it into the new construction home loan?
