I am a college undergraduate, soon to graduate with a degree in finance with one of my focuses in real estate. What I would like to be answered is what kind of prepartion is necessary for the exam to get the license? How I should prepare? If I were to get the license in Michigan could I use it in Illinois or other states, or do I need spereate licensing in different states? Any other relevant information about Real Estate would be helpful. Thanks.

In Michigan you need to attend 40 hours of pre-licensing classes. It cost me about $300. Then after taking the class you take a state test. The class was enough prep for me. As a college student it probably won't be that tough for you. Each state has it's own licensing requirements and a Michigan one will only work for Michigan.

If your on the east side of Michigan please feel free to contact me at jamesbalk@realestateone.com. As Michigans largest real estate company we have our own school, and over 50 locations. I can have to talk to a broker at any one of our locations.

Good Luck!

Go online and type in illinois office of financial regulations. Or type in OBRE or Office of bank's and real estate.(That is what the agency used to be called). Find the realtor's division and speak to a rep. They can guide you the right way of going at it. They will give you a list of approved school's to call. Dont listen to some of the school's that offer the classes and then after you pay you find out that they are not even licensed by the state of illinois to teach the classes. You can also get another license to work in michigan as well. You just have to do the main thing and that is make sure to pay the state of michigan's license fees. I hope I have helped. Good Luck the real estate business is alot of fun. Do not listen to any of the negative people that try and shift you away from what you want to acomplish in your life.

Every state has it's own licensing requirements, so you would need a separate license for each state you wanted to work in. Look in your yellow pages for or go to a nationally known agent like Century21 or Coldwell Banker and find out if they offer licensing schools (really just a test preparation class).

The other relevant information I can offer is that you do not get a Realtors license, you get a real estate license. Realtor is a trademarked name, and can only be used by real estate agents who pay a membership fee.

You have asked quite a few questions....Usually you need to take a real estate class. Check with your local real estate brokers and junior colleges they offer classes. Each state is different, you will need to check the secretary of state for the state that you reside, they typically will handle the licensing. Since most agents are licensed for the state they reside in, you will need to check the other states licensing requirements. In Illinois, you would need to be licensed in IL to practice in the state.

Each state has it's own licence. You would need a Michigan and Ill license.
Walk into any LARGE Real Estate office and ask to talk tot he mgr. If they would like you to work for them they may sponcer you at a school. Usually a night course for pre license. Then you take a test then get a license and go to work for the office that sent you.
It's all commision and you are an independant contractor.
