Any tips, suggestions, ideas to help pay off credit card debt in which so many Americans get themselves in.

I have a debt of about just $1300 which was about $2000 in the summer, I'm currently working and paying more than the minimum. Is it better just to pay the minimum, set the aside money each month then pay off the whole thing?

i tried to order something through Paypal (which i do all the time), but the transaction didn't go through and it said that my card was denied by my credit card issuer. I didn't cancel my card or anything and i don't think i went over my limit (though i can't remember what my limit is, since it's a starter card and may be lower than i thought). But if i did go over my limit, what do i do? If i pay it off, will my card get turned back on or would i have to get a new one? And if i didn't exceed my limit...?

My banker told me that any loans that will be paid off in less than 10 months are not included in calculating debt to income when applying for a mortgage. My auto lease is 36 months, and I have 24 months remaining. If I pay extra money each month to get ahead until I have 9 payments left, then apply for a mortgage, will the monthly lease payments be ignored from the debt to income ratio despite the actual end date of the lease being farther out than 10 months?

Kind of a weird question, I know.

I just paid off a little over $4000 in credit card debt and a charge-off. The cards that I paid off had no available credit, and I went ahead and closed the accounts after I paid the balance in full. My debt to income ratio right now is only 21%, which I've heard is great. My question is about improving my credit score...will it go up now that my debt is paid in full? If so, how much? Also, could I have potentially hurt my credit by closing the accounts that I paid off? Thanks for any help!! We are going to be buying a house within the next year, so I could definitely use some pointers.

Some people think my wife and I are crazy for never owning a credit card and should get one. We are 22 with no debt besides our house. I guess we aren't fixated on our credit score like many other people. We own debit cards but have never felt the need to get a credit card. From all that I have heard, credit cards can do a whole lot of harm, but not that much good. So why do people own them? Any thoughts are much appreciated, thanks!

I am currently on workers compensation. I should not have bad credit...so when i applied for a capitol one credit card they denied me for reasons unsaid. Is it maybe because seomthing might have gone into collections...even though i was promised it wouldn't because i payed it off...or maybe they just won't give me one while i'm on wsib...even though i do make enough money!
where could i go in canada to get one?

Car repossession back in 2004. Difference in payment/amount sold is around $4,000. Summoned to court, nothing came out of it. Just ended up having to met with the legal assistant and explain that I couldnt pay it (long story) Was told that it was fine, but interest would still be applied to the bill. Just got a letter saying that it is now $6,000 +. Court date was only a couple months ago. Statutes of limitation for debts in my state is 5 years. Can I wait for the time to run out? What can happen?

So after you pay a bill on your credit card, on the remaining balance they charge ARP? So if balance is $100, and the apr percentage is 20% ( just an example ) would they charge 20 dollars and you're left with $120?

I got a letter in the mail from the bank that says paying our mortgage payment bi-weekly instead of monthly could save us $40,000 to $100,000 in interest and reduce our mortgage term by 7 to 9 years without refinancing. How does this work?

Hello, I run a small retail shop in Minnesota. Yesterday, someone wanted to charge FIFTY CENTS on a credit card. My fees are nearly that much, if not more. So, I gave him the item, and told him to pay me next time he stopped by. The question I have is, what are my options, in Minnesota, regarding such small purchases on a Credit Card? Can I refuse them? Can I charge an extra fee to cover my costs in processing a 4-bit Charge? (And, yeah, I realize both options don't really encourage more business at my shop) But, c'mon......FIFTY CENTS? Back when Jesse was the Gov, the rule was you had to accept the charge, but could add on a fee for your costs. But I have yet to find a confirmation that the rule is still in effect. Anyways, thanks for the help. TABroman

consolidation but charges a $40 fee. They also do credit counseling (which I don't need.) I just need to lower my monthly payments because of high interest. I don't want a service like credit conseling to effect my credit score. Any response would be appreciated.

what happens if a debt collector stops sending you letters. How do i know if the debt is now invalid? I ask for a validation of debt and they never sent it to me and now they don't send me anything at all. How do i know they won't come back in 4 years? How can I stop them from haunting me in 4 years if they refuse to answer my letters now.

I currently have about a 620 credit score. Within the last year of two I have added new accounts and have made timely payments with a slip of maybe one or two times of late payments. My credit score has improved since then. What majorily has brought my credit score down are two collection accounts that refuse to come off, one is paid and the other I have no intention of paying ( i do not feel like I owe).
What steps can I take to bring up my credit score significantly? I was thinking of adding myself to a relatives account as a joint account holder. It is a seasoned account. How much will it raise my credit score to add myself to seasoned accounts as a joint account holder?

My friend is being sued by a collection agency. The only way he knew this was because they froze his bank account. I thought that collection agencies had to contact you to inform you they were trying to collect on a debt from you first before they just sue you and freeze your account. If he never received anything from them via mail or phone, do they have the right to sue him and freeze his account?
