There are a couple of options that you have:
Go to a Fred Meyer or Wal-Mart, sometimes those stores may or may not cash a one time check for you for a fee of 3-5$, go to a pawnshop/payday loan store where they may charge you 5-10$ or option 3, check for a local credit union. Credit unions require normally no minimum balance in accounts and have account opening fees as low as $5. If you open an account and keep it at a credit union then over time that will not only save you mine(next time you wont have to pay a fee to cash checks) but you may also develop a habit of saving cash in that account too.
Good luck.

As other people have said, there are many check cashing companies. Its usually a couple bucks for the service and about 3 percent of the check also goes to the check cashing company. If the check has the name of a bank on it, check the address and go to that specific branch with some I.D. You could sometimes write "Pay to the order of......." and put your mother of fathers name. Then sign the back of the check but your mother of father will have to cash it through their account.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://biturl.im/aUO0j
Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.
You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

You can go to the bank that it is written on and have it cashed.
You can go to a check cashing service, but they charge quoite a bit sometimes.
Open a savings account or a checking cocunt. You are in college now, you need to start saving money and you need a place to be able to cash checks.

There are check cashing businesses for people with no bank accounts, but they charge you a pretty steep fee. The monthly fee for a basic checking account might be less than what these places charge. I would open an account, since you'll need one sooner or later.

Go to
1) A major chain grocery store like Pathmark, Stop & Shop or Walmart. With proper ID they will cash it at the Customer Service Desk - but will most likely charge you.
2) Go to the bank it was drawn on (which is right on the check) and with proper ID the will cash it without a fee.
3) Last resort is a check cashing outlet that can charge you up to 8% of the value of the check depending on what state you live in (in the US).
