I got two phones from Cingular years ago to allow my brother in law to use one. He later ran up the bill and fled the country. I had made him an authorized user on the account which allowed him to view the phone bill only, which was back in 2001. However, last year August 2006, he went to Cingular and opened a completely new account under a new contract in my name and without my knowledge. I did not find out until he took off and I tried to close the account. When I called customer service they tried to accuse me of opening the account, but when the rep looked at the DL# that opened the account, she realized that it wasn’t me. However, the Cingular fraud department refuses to investigate or accept that it is fraud because I know the person and the phone which I did set-up (the phone I gave him to use) showed that it called both phone that he had set-up, so they automatically believe that it was me. I am now stuck paying $1100 in charges to try to clear it off my credit report

I have 600 bucks that was turned into a collection agency from Capital One. I am unemployed and cannot pay a penny right now. What are the chances they are going to get a judgement against me for this small amount of money. (by the way I do plan on paying this money, I just cannot right now)

This is not a good thing for yahoo to allow at there personals site once they are made aware of this. I truly hope that this person is stopped before more people are allowed to be scammed. The only provable name on record wher western union money is sent is Adehunle Kazeem.

Okay, I live in California. I recently had an accident and owe the hospital thousands of dollars. I have been paying on my account every month and have never missed a payment. Well today the hopital told me that they wanted me to sign a contract stating I would pay $200 a month. I told them I could not afford $200 a month. So to make a long story short they said they were going to send my account to the creditors even though I have been making consistent payments every month. Can they really send my account to the creditors are they just trying to make me pay and higher payment?

I received a letter from a debt collector about an old debt... from about 1999-2000. I believe it should be dropped from my credit report by now but the letter says they have just purchased the debt and they can affect my credit rating. Does it matter that they purchased the debt or is it only the age of the debt that matters? I live in Maryland if that helps.

Are there any sources for strategies on protecting assets when a terminally ill spouse dies? Especially, if the spouse dies with a large unpaid medical bill? My mother owns a house, two cars, and a small retirement fund and we wish to protect her from the fallout of her husband's death by maybe changing titles, transfering ownerships, etc, to utilize loopholes. Any insights muchly appreciated.

Recently I have received calls from a collection agency that claims to be a law office. The first time they called they said this was the last chance I had to pay them the full balance ($7,200) before they sued me. They suggested that I should ask my family members (which they named off) for the money. I told them that I would ask my family and that the only thing I can currently do is make some type of payment plan. They responded that the only options I have are to pay it off now or get sued.

The second time I informed him that I would not ask my family member for $7,200 and that I would just have to let nature takes it course and they can sue me. Once I told him that he was open to the idea of a payment plan. The catch was that I would have to use my Sears credit card, which I forgot I had, to make a $2,000 payment to them then monthly payments after that.

I want to pay this debt but I am not using a credit card to do it.

My question is what are my option here?

I have some ridiculous medical charges against me currently.. I am a full time student, that works min wage part time jobs. I am not one to skip out on bills, always pay my credit card etc. .. However those are planned expenses, and this medical one was not.. and its very high for me to afford. I've been researchin letters of hardship, just for an idea of what I would write, but all of those I've found are for just spreading the payments out.. I'm wondering if its possible to actually reduce the priced for good, since I feel that paying this in full will hurt me significantly for at least the next year as I'm trying to pay tuition/living expenses/etc..

Is there a way I can calculate a combined interest rate on all my debt? Example - paying mortgage $1500/month at 6%, credit card for $250/month at 20%, credit card for $300/month at 30%, car loan for $350/month at 8%, student loan at $200/month at 7.50% - is there a way to combine all of the debt and figure out what the interest rate is on the combined debt?

The law office Wolpoff & Abramson, L.L.P. is claiming that I owe $7671.92... It says if I don't pay, I will be sued. It claims it is representing Best Buy, and the only thing I have purchased from there is a laptop, which I paid for on the spot...(It was not even $1,000!) I have no idea what it's about and don't know who to contact. There is a number on the letter but I would like to contact some other place before I contact them... Who do I contact?? I'm lost on this...Please help!

I am new at being on a credit card. I was told that I have good credit (thankfully). But my credit card company, Capital One, I hear is a bad company, that they rip teenagers off. I have noticed some things on my statements that I don't like. What are some better credit card companies? And is Capital One really all that bad? I mean, I've heard that they are getting sued. Thanks.

I had mediocre credit about 10 years ago. I paid off all of my debt and went through a "cleaning up" period. I have not had anything negative in more than 7 years and have a credit score of 768.

Friday I got a collection letter from some Joe Schmoe stating I owe them $273.00.

Not only do I have no idea who these people are, but I also know that anything I owed I completely paid off 7 years ago.

I pulled a credit report and this debt is not on my credit. If I send them the obligatory letter disputing the debt can they put it on my credit?

I want to keep it off...I am almost tempted to just pay it so it doesn't affect my credit.

Anyone know the right thing to do?

Thanks

I have about $6,000 of debt from credit cards spread over about 5 different cards. I would like to have it ALL on one bill. Should I consolidate it? What do you think my best bet is? ( I always pay over the minimum amount due, by the way.)
