We have child #3 on the way in about 6 weeks, and need to get a bigger car. Wanting something reliable and practical...something that will last a while. We are thinking 2004 or 2005 Honda Oddysey or Toyota Sienna. Just got a big chunk of $$ from my old job, and want to use $10k down as it would be about 50% of the total cost. We will be using the remainder to pay down/off other debts, but we do not have time to wait unitl the payoffs are reflected in the credit score. Do I have hope of getting a decent van at this point? Any ideas/'suggestions?

In early February I went to a used auto dealer and found a car I liked. I filled out the paperwork and told the dealer the maximum I would like to pay monthly. I gave my approval for him to submit my application - and he went ahead and submitted my application to 4 different banks (that I know of so far). As far as I knew, he would submit it once and if it didn't work out to the payment I wanted he would let me know. Instead, he went ahead and sent my application on to other banks. Is that legal? I gave my approval yes, but not for multiple banks...and now my credit score will be going down because he submitted my application to many banks and I will have numerous inquiries on my credit reports. I contacted the dealer about it, and all he told me was that I authorized him to do that. He also submitted an application for an amount $10,000. higher than the application was for. I was told by him that it was a mistake on his part, but he could not have the inquiry removed. Is that legal?!

I need to know all the details and if it is a good choice. I have payed off my vehicle and credit cards and have none, but I have alot of student loan debt. Our dilema are the student loans. And paying them. I have heard about home equity loans and heard about being tax deductible. How do they work? Do they look bad on your credit? How much can you borrow ? Does it add to the years to pay off your house? We only have eleven years left to pay as it is right now. Just wondering what is a good option. I even thought that after I graduate and am working that my pay checks can go all to my student loans. I am just looking for some good ideas without having to stress out about debt and bills and such. We are trying to pay our bills off and so far have done good. But those student loans are looming in the background.

This is more of a story than a question. I am about to declare bankruptcy (have tried debt counseling to no avail). But here is the story. I signed up for a debt settlement place. I had the collectors calling my house in the beginning. This one collection agency kept calling me at work & at home. I finally changed my number. Prior to this all mail was coming to me personally because I was the primary user on the credit card and my spouse was only an auth user. I know my spouse is not responsible for the debt only being an authorized user from talking to a lawyer. This debt collection agency got mad I changed my phone number so started to call my in laws house. They even changed my address to my inlaws address and started to send all of my mail to them. Then when they were still not getting any response they then added my spouses name to the mailings. This account when with the org debtor was only in my name and all mailings just came to me. This shows just shows hot spineless they are.

My daughter was in the emergency room and i appealed the bill with the insurance co b/c they had her deductible wrong. i let the hospital know it was being reviewed by insurance. i am starting to get calls from the hospital about the bill, and it has been over 2 months with no new insurance statement. my insurance said it is still being processed. i would just pay it and get reimbursed, but it is over $700 and that doesn't make sense to do if it doesn't affect my credit. Please help!

I was laid off about 2 years ago and had something repossessed (about $10K), I took full responsibility and made contact last year with the collection agency to arrange monthly payments, I've been making consistently payments - on time for about 8 months but was shocked to read my monthly payment had jump from $200 to $2000 when reading this months statement. When I called the collector, he said their attorney sent something in the mail and I should receive it shortly and they have the right to change the amount of payments at any given time. He also commented upon looking at my credit report, I didn't have bad credit and noticed that I had paid things off quickly in the past but didn't take into account that was when I was at my old employer making 2 times more. I don't want further ruin my credit and can't afford a lawyer. Somehow this doesn't feel right to me, can someone please shed some light?

I just purchased a prepaid MC and while reading on the inside of the cardboard, I see there will be a $4.95 fee per month to use. I have not called to activate yet. When I do, they will send me a plastic card.

I just got a $35 late fee on my credit card account because I went into the bank on Saturday and handed them my payment rather than making it over the phone!! When I called customer service she had the nerve to tell me that if I had made my payment over the phone on Satuday it would have been on time! This is just one more dirty ways that Bank of America's treats its customers. And I personally am not going to take it anymore! I want to hear all of your horror stories about this Bank, I am consulting with an attorney to see about a class action law suit against Bank of America. If I can get enough people with legitamate complaints We might have a chance to do something about it.

Awhile back, I started getting a magazine but had never ordered it so I ignored it (I was only 19 or so.) I got bills in the mail and even notices from collection agencies but my stupid self didn't think I could take a hit to my credit if I had never even ordered the service I was being charged for. Anyway, my credit report classifies this magazine subscription as "Seriously past due date / assigned to attorney, collection agency, or credit grantor's internal collection department," but it's been well over 2 years, all the mailings have ceased and the account status says "closed," like the other credit cards I've paid off.

However, I think my credit is still suffering because of this. What should I do?
