The Wall Street Journal reported today (2/13/07) that Bank of America has rolled out a program in Los Angeles county offering credit cards to those without social security numbers or credit histories. They hope to go national with the program this year.

In recent years, banks across the country have been offering checking accounts and even mortgages to undocumented immigrants, most of whom are Hispanic. Is this a good idea? What do you think will be the long-term effects?

During my last year of highschool I moved in with my mom. All my mail went to her house. Then last summer, the year before I was to leave for college, i moved in with my grandma. So i had some mail fowarded there. Mainly credit card statements and college papers. About half way through the summer I moved back in with my dad, so some mail was going there too. Once I moved to college I had my credit card statements go there, and importmant mail go there also. However, I had to drop out of college at semester bc of financial problems. My mom moved in with her fiancee, so now I have mail scattered all over the place. We live in the middle of NO WHERE, and since were snowed in we cant go anywhere. I need to know if theres a website that i can change my address for free bc my credit card is now cancelled. Over the phone is okay too. The United States Postal Services website charges you a dollar which you must pay with a credit card. PLEASE HELP! thanks!

I am trying to raise my credit score quickly. Right now I am at 593-around 650 depending on agency. So, by paying off the 5 credit cards that I currently have(some with amounts ranging from 1,500-2,500), should that raise my credit score a great deal? If not, will a credit repair company help or are they just a scam?

i payed off and closed a credit card account in december. i then received a statement in the mail stating i still owed money to the account and it was past due. i then called the company and got it all figured out, with them telling me they would fix what seemed to be their mistake since the card had been cut up and no new charges were made. i now have received another notice in the mail stating that i owe them $80.00 and again the payment is late. because my payment is late they have reported me to the credit agency as 30 days past due. how can i dispute this?

My student loan defaulted and they are taking pmts from my wages. 15% per pay period, Which OK its a debt so I will pay it. I know that when it defaulted it killed my credit, so ...Will my credit get better after awhile, since all pmts will be made on time through wage garnishing? Will this problem eventually turn to be something good or will it always darken my credit until its paid off?

I had to have my dad co-sign for my car loan a couple of years ago. I didn't have bad credit at the time, it was just that I didn't really have a credit history so they required a co-signer. I have never been late on a payment and often pay more then the minimum. Is it worthwhile to see if my bank will remove my Dad as the co-signer in the interest of improving my credit score?

Does this mean that I don't have to pay it but it is still on my credit report. Are they obligated by law to tell me what they did with the account? and does this mean I don't have to pay now that the collection agency closed it?

I still have a balance on it. I've learned the hard way that credit cards aren't very nice. I want to pay it off as soon as I can but would canceling them now before the balance is paid off be wise. Would my interest rate go up or down or would it not change once I cancel the card?

my best friend is going through a rough time, owes a lot of money to credit cards, and can't seem to be make the payments on time, and struggles throughout the month with money. She wants to go bankrupt, like a personal bankrupt, and I wanted to ask if anyone has done this, and what all is involved. She lives in canada. She definitly wouldnt be able to get a loan or consolidate them, they would deny her cause she owes so much. She got layed off work, and in order to survive for almost a year had to rack up credit cards. She fought so hard to find work and is just getting back into work but can't really get these cards paid for. Shes only making minimum wage. Any advice on brankruptcy would help. Thanks

a strange thing happened last week. i received a check delivered overnight thru ups. it was made out to me for $2000.00. i took it to the bank and they funds were not available. so i waited a few days and called the bank, they said the funds were available, so i went to cash it and they would not cash it because the account was changed or it may have been a counterfiet check? ever heard of a scam like this? and what could they get from it?
