i payed off and closed a credit card account in december. i then received a statement in the mail stating i still owed money to the account and it was past due. i then called the company and got it all figured out, with them telling me they would fix what seemed to be their mistake since the card had been cut up and no new charges were made. i now have received another notice in the mail stating that i owe them $80.00 and again the payment is late. because my payment is late they have reported me to the credit agency as 30 days past due. how can i dispute this?

First, you need to close out the card in writing, and send certified so you can verify they received it. Next, request them to correct this as you paid the balance in full on the last statement by the statement due date (I presume). Next, go to www.annualcreditreport.com, order your credit reports for all 3 bureaus. Then file online disputes to have the pay history corrected or deleted. Be careful that they don't add penalties, or if there is an annual fee they charged you before closing it out. Remember, whenever you speak with someone at the credit card company, if that person doesn't help you, ask for their supervisor. And keep going up the ladder until you have a resolution. Good luck!

Most people think that is a quote from Godfather III

Actually, it is a guy dealing with a credit card company.
