They won't give you any proof unless you work something out with them BEFORE you pay off your debts. You must set up a payment plan, and have IN WRITING from them that when you pay off your debts by X date, they will remove negative reports from your credit history.

Keep all written documentation. If you make an arrangement to pay off a debt, either in full, or by settling, REQUIRE them to send you the agreement in writing.

Keep a copy of the agreement, the cancelled check, and a copy of the letter you send to them stating: "Per your letter dated xx/xx/xxxx, I have included payment in the amount of ...."

If you follow these tips, they have no ground to stand on.

Keep track of your card statements that showed when the payments were made. Ask for receipts if possible. The more proof you have of payments, the better off you are.

I have found that it is better to not even deal with the collection agency. I pay the original creditor....That way you do not have to pay the extra finance charges that the collection agency charge.
