If you have a score of 700 before you went into jail, is there anyway to keep it like that until you get out so you can pay your bills and be able to continue on with your life?

My husband had to pay a debt off with Abbey. He does not have any Debit or Credit cards. He told them that he would be able to pay them with my card when the money had been transferred.
Phones them up two days later to pay but they won't let him. They want verification from ME that he can use my card. I return from my jaunt and he rings them again. Hands the phone to me. Lady says “Is it ok for your husband to pay this bill with your card?" I say Yes and she says Ok, can you give me the number?
I say “IS that it?" she says yes.. I say "but I could be the cleaner!” She says “sorry but if any money is taken off your card illegally we have to be able to prove that we asked you. I said "BUT I COULD BE THE CLEANER!!!"
Anyway,it got paid, but I can't understand why they would take the word of an anonymous voice on the end of a phone when they wouldn't take my husbands word for it.. who let's be honest.. was just ANOTHER anonymous voice on a phone.
Have you come across nonsense like this?

Does anyone know if debt recovery agencies are allowed to phone us on Sundays?

I am having dealings with Capquest at the moment. These people are rude agressive and they also phone on Sundays. (hence the question)

I have had enough already, I have given Direct Debit arrangements to them, but there was a hiccup at my bank..Capquest were on the phone again ....I ignored the phone for a while...then I found the phone number..not the 0870 number (You can get a normal one off their website) I then phoned them and spoke to a woman on the phone. She was trying to tell me what to pay. I just said..."Excuse me, I have already made an arrangement and that is the one I will adhere to" ...It did the trick.

I would like to hear form anyone else if they have expereinced the same thing.

Thanks.

if i take out a loan to consolidate my credit cards, will that hurt my credit. I was told that if you have credit cards that are over 50% of the balance, than that drags down your score. I just want to consolidate so I don't have that problem

A so called friend of mine has opened a credit card under my address with his name on it. Should I be worried about mail fraud or will this affect my credit? He has only been in the usa for a few years. Maybe illegally? What should I do? Any legal action???

I have been married for 6 years. When I was first married, my husband would use my ssn for his own personal usages. Such as, adult chat lines, and utilities... I was not working for the first three years, and in that time, he opened credit cards, fell delinquint on our utility bills, and never paid a single bill.

I am now 26 with two children, and I am tired of having to move every year because he won't even help to pay rent now that we are both working. He makes twice, if not three times what I make annually.

To sum up, my credit is a mess, I need to clean it up and I am not making much working my full time job... I would love to have a home one day in the next few years or so, but need help.

Should I file for bankruptcy?

(please, no comments about divorce. I am not looking for that type of advice)

When I recieve the statement of my credit cards, it tells me the statement balance for example is $100. It also shows recent activity since my billing cycle ended, for example lets say $25. I have always paid the $125, however my wife recently told me that you only need to pay the statement balance, the $100, and it effects your credit the same way. I told her that it is better for your credit score to pay off the full amount, statement balance and recent activity, in full.

Is this just a matter of whatever floats your boat, or is one way better for your credit than another?

In my opinion it is not. I don't have horrifying credit but I have a few items on my credit report. I think it is unfair because they could turn down a very qualified candidate because of financial reasons. Do they ever think if this person gets a good job they could repair their credit.

I need to repair my credit but honestly do not have the time to do this myself. Has anyone ever used an agency that acutally worked and if so how long did it take?

I have been getting pre recorded calls from a person from national enterprise system. At first I thought that they were solicitors so I have never returned their call. I finally yahooed that name and found it was a collection agency. This has been going on for the past 10 months. I do not have any credit problems or situations that could have a collector on my back. It could be from many years ago, there was a person with the same last name that lived on my street who had problems with collectors but I am afraid to speak with the company for fear of the consequences (what if they had something on me, or I don't want to verify anything that could cause me undue trouble with collectors, etc.).

since this guy has been calling 1 to 3 times a week for the past 10 months, leaving a message on my answering machine, I figure he was just fishing for information from me about me or someone else.

Any way I can get this guy to stop calling me without having to speak to him?

My wife and I had both of our credit ratings lowered due to medical bills. We allowed a wage garnishment to go through on her wages in order to get them paid off. I am retired and recieve Social Security disability. We have are current on our mortgage payments, we have no credit cards, and no other loan payments. We have been advised to acquire a loan or a credit card to help raise our credit ratings. We now need a car loan and like credit card offers we recieve almost daily, we have also recieved an offer for auto financing which states we are preapproved. My question is how preapproved are you in these offers. They state that the preapproval is based on our credit information.
