When you go to the bank for a loan, where does the money come from? Under the Bank Act, banks are prohibited from loaning out other persons deposits and also prohibited from loaning their own money.

Where does it come from then?

I had a medical bill go into collections that I didnt know about. I never received a bill, nothing! I found out about it cause I looked at my credit report. I paid the bill off a few weeks ago (as soon as I found out) they said it will come off my credit report within 30-45 days. What can I do about that? Will it really come off my credit report?

I keep getting phone calls from collection agencies asking for a woman that I don't know and who has never lived at my address. When I looked her up on the internet, she has an address and a phone number (that's NOTHING close to mine, BTW). I've told the SAME company they have the wrong number and they still keep calling - it's starting to feel like harrassment. When the agency called last night I told them they had the wrong number and that they could look her up. They said that if I gave them her number then they'd stop calling me! Wait, it gets better . . . I said wait a minute, let me fire up my computer to look her up and give you the number and the collection agency lady said, "Madam, I don't have that kind of time to wait on the phone!" I have the woman's number ready for when they call again, but what if they keep calling? What do I do?

A 'tracing co' has contacted me and has advised they will be making me bankrupt unless I contact them within 7 days. This is an old debt which has been passed around to various debt companies over many years. They have my name wrong - I have since married and the letter is very aggressive, informing me that I will made bankrupt.
I do not deny this is my debt ( albeit with hefty amounts since added on) but can these companies actually arrange bankruptcy without the individuals permission?

What are the affects on my credit rating if I have outstanding school loans? Basically, does having taken out loans affect my credit score? I am not in default and have a balance of over $50,000.

I lived with a man that paid all my bills and I wasnt working. I got store credit cards and jacked them up b/c I would be so bored at the house. We broke up and now I'm stuck paying for them! It was such a STUPID thing to do but at the time I was enjoying it. Just wondering who else was going through this and how you are coping.

We had major credit problems and had a foreclosure 2.5 years ago. My credit has improved and my income has gone up, the problem is by the time I save up 10%, houses will skyrocket again. There are so many vacant properties, I have written to owners and asked them to owner finance for 1 year and only 1 responded, and he wanted 50k down (if I had that I wouldn;t have to owner finance!) Who will lend to us?
