most creditors don't really count them if they are over 6 months.

According to FICO, the company that creates the scores used to rate consumer’s credit worthiness, inquiries that are over 1 year old are not used to calculate your credit score. As long as you haven't applied for anything within the last year you should not be adversely affected. Having an inquiry every now and then isn't really that bad considering that a single inquiry doesn't really lower your credit score that much. As far as individual companies are concerned, it would be up to each company on a 1-on-1 basis as to how long inquiries count and at what age they start to disregard them. Also keep in mind that if you make multiple inquiries within a 30 day period all of the inquiries are considered as one inquiry. This allows you to apply for a loan with numerous banks at the same time to shop for the lowest interest rate or best terms without adversely affecting your credit score.

it's basically a certain amount of inquiries per X amount of time. let's say 5 inquiries in a 3 month time is considered a lot. but if no more are done for an additional 6 months or so, then it doesn't matter. a new model is rolling out that all bureaus are supposed to accept. some will some won't however the new model eliminates inquiries from droppng your score. so some will gravitate to that while others will simply keep the same model they use now.
