Make sure you provide dates and copies of any documentation that you have. Keep copies of this correspondence for yourself too. You might want to have it in the future when applying for loans or credit. In addition to contacting the credit agencies themselves, contact the company with whom you are disputing the debt or record. They usually don't do anything, but this is another fact you can include in the dispute statement to the credit agency. Keep in mind that this negative information will not disappear from your credit report when you dispute it. A dispute will be recorded and noted on your history.

first understand that the credit bureaus are not on the side of your creditors.their main purpose is to collect accurate information and sell them for profit.if you find inaccurate information about you from a company first write to all 3 and dispute the information and proof where necessary.the onus then shifts to the company to dispute your claim.if they can't the bureau has to remove the information by law.in case the reporting agency is being unethical you write to the better business bureau in the company's jurisdiction and they will tell you what to do.
