When I was 18 I got into trouble with too many credit cards and then collection for those cards. They have been paid off (or charged-off, as my report says) for over two years. Currently I have a mortgage and a few low-balance cards that I pay on time and there's nothing outstandingly wrong with my history for the past two years, but my credit score hasn't raised since I paid off all of the bad debt. Are there any ways to bring the score up?

If so what was your experiance, I just did a looks over their "plans" and they seems a little too good to be true type.

If they really do help them we might be able to work with them considering they accept money orders.

Also if they are a good company and you send the money order, will they accept MORE then what you owe? I know it is probably a dumb question, but if you have extra money and can send it, I want to be able to send it to probably get it paid off in LESS then 3 years as they say it is possible!

She has about $20,000.00 in credit card debt. Most of the debt is medical related (prescription co-pays, deductibles), and some of the debt is very old.

I have good credit, but I have 4 credit cards (retail accounts) that I don't use. I have one credit card through my bank that I do use occasionally. I have no debt. I have heard that closing my unused retail accounts would actually lower my credit score. Is this true? It thought closing them would help my credit, as it seems that people can be denied the best interest rates due to "a large number of retail accounts." Enlighten me please...

We are doing everything we can to avoid it but in case we have to in the next few month (husband is self emplyed, I make about 2k/month and we have 2 small kids), what are the downfalls? I know about the 7 years on the report but what if we own a house and cars? I don't plan on getting another credit card for a while.
We got in trouble in the first place by financing my husbands business with CCards and have now too many debts to repay.
Any insights woule be appreciated along with experiences.
Thanks

I had previously been sued by a credit card company and I paid off the majority of the balance. I was unable to work for over 2 years after a serious injury and when I was not working I was unable to pay. Now they are saying that I owe them 3 times the balance on my account and have placed a lien on my checking account for twice what they are saying the balance is. In the state of IL is it legal to do this?? I have just started back to work and offered to make a payment arrangement until I can do better. They will only accept full payment is what they told me. Would it be better to file bankruptcy or to just go ahead and pay ?? If so who do I pay the bank or the creditor? I do have other bills that will also need to be paid and I dont have much money to work with.

Supposedly personal information for over 2.5 million customers was lost, and Circuit recently notified its members. Also, the letter sent to customers mentions that First North American National Bank was the original issuer of credit for circuit city customers. However, that name doesn't sound familiar. To my knowledge it has always been Chase Bank. Any thoughts?

I got a new credit card and I was wondering how i could avoid some of the mistakes my friends have done. To maintain an excellent credit history ( at least as far as credit cards are concerned) how much of my credit should i spend on a monthly basis? 10% or 50% or something in between? Thank you.

mixed up when I was in the hospital. 3 yrs later when I'm pretty much "back to normal" all of a sudden a garnishment shows up on my account. No warning, no letters, no nothing. True I've lived in different places when I was released from my 3month hospital stay (mainy my parents) so maybe the warnings got lost in the mail but, can they do this? Take legal action without a response from me noting that I've recieved their warnings? Anyway, moving from here on out: How long will it be on my credit report, can I get it expunged? can i pay bills off like no other to try and off set the damage? Will I ever be able to get that house, car, boat, whatever? Please help....WHAT CAN I DO!!!?!?!?!?

I have a problem with credit cards, and recently paid off a maxed out card with a VERY large credit limit with help from my parents. I would like to close the account so I can't use it again, but I've heard that this will have a negative effect on my credit rating. Is this true, and if so how much of a negative effect? I'm trying to weigh the risk of me caving and racking up more debt vs. the ultimate effect on my credit score for mortgage, care loan, student loan, etc. in the future.

I am using a LOT of points tonight! LOL! Again on my fiance, some of the things on his credit says that they will drop off or continue until such and such month of such and such year. Does that mean that the creditor has until THEN to contact him to get the money and then they can't get it? If so would it be wise (probably not) to ignore some of them that drop off next year? Just wondering, he has QUITE A FEW that drop off next year, but they are low balances that I can probably work a payment plan with (if I can find a way to contact them) and have them taken care of.

Thanks for ALL your help tonight! I am off to bed to be SURE I will NOT ask ANYMORE questions! LOL!

If you get help from one of those credit places where you are going to pay off all your bills but it is making ONE payment per month how does that LOOK on your CREDIT? My credit is already OK, not bad but not good, but I can get a house with it, and I want to make sure this isn't going to make is WORSE by using one of these people to help with my debt. It is just I am barely making it and I have a little girl and I want to see if they can help me with the debt and help me give my daughter a better life.

Also my fiance's credit is really bad so we will be using them or just filing bankruptcy for him because there is almost no hope for his (but we are still looking at options).

I honestly think that once we get rid of all of the credit card debt that we will be able to live HAPPY on the paychecks we get from Wal-Mart, but it is just getting to that point that is hard.

All in all, how will it look on MY credit to use the debt help?

Just wondering in a SLIGHT chance if anyone has the number to the American Medical Collection Agency or AMCA. They recently turned my medical collections that I was paying them for LabCorp over to a new company and didn't report my last payment. I want to get a hold of them, I paid them $15 and still owed $5 and now the new company says I still owe $20. I tried talking to them about it but they just keep saying "Your balance is $20" and that I have to call AMCA. My paper for AMCA has disappeared and I figured I would ask here in the off chance that someone else has dealt with the same company and may have their number!

Thanks!
