I just started a temp job on Monday and met my boss for the first time just now. I had to take a day off yesterday (as I had an emergency at home) - we had mice and I had to get the council round. My boss wasn't in on the Monday that I started. She couldn't understand why I was afraid of mice and to have to get the council involved. Then, she wanted to know at that precise moment, what I was doing. I told her, "Just erasing one of your tapes that I've typed". Odd is she or what?

my job suggested moving me farther away when i get back from maternity leave they said their will be more responsibility but my job title will stay the same, i want to move up but not for no money and to go farther away is going to be a slight inconvienence however ive never asked more a raise in my life, but i did and they said they would discuss it, should i have done that? now im scared they'll say no and treat me differently, does anyone have any advice?

I was looking to get a career in the probation service, but i was going to go to uni before hand.

Basically, all I want to know is - will it be a complete waste of time because by the time I'm ready to get a job there won't be any jobs available?

There is a lady at work who is nothing more than a biyaatch...
My husband calls in from time to time to tell me something urgent. Yesterday he called in and asked her if he could speak to me. She is always rude and obnoxious on the phone, no matter who the person is (unless it's her personal call).
He finally had enough of this and filed a complaint under a fake name so as not to give me grief.
Our boss read this complaint and immediately pinned ME as the person who answered the phone rudely....
I didn't feel like getting in trouble for the umpteenth time at work so I pulled my boss aside and told her the situation.
She was fine with it and said he had every right to complain, but now we are having a meeting to discuss it, and the biyatch had already made it known that she is going to VOICE HER OPINION....
My question?: How do you disconnect so that things don't get to you...I'm tired of all the B.S. and just want to tune out like I did when I was a teenager...HELP!

Can working for civil service get you a good job later on in government or the private sector. I know the pay is low but if it helps get a better job it's worth it. Or are you pretty much just stuck in civil service.

Toronto dot com start-up. Offered new position from within, to oversee Ad Trafficking/Operations/Analytics. Reports to CTO. Offered 35K with 3 weeks vacation and the opportunity to renegotiate in July 07. No stock options. No travel subsidy for commuting.

Am I being low-balled? What are my options? I love working for this company, but I can't afford to make short-sighted financial decisions.
