I fix people's computers as a hobby: hardware and software related problems. The other day I charged a guy $80 for about three and a half hours of work, where I had to fix some connection issues he had. Do you feel like I overcharged him? Should I charge more? A reduction in price for next time (I am going again tomorrow)? Discuss.

I want to hear some stories about crappy first days of work because I had a really bad one today. Maybe someone can make me laugh. I knocked a huge filing cabinet over and broke a chair.

My job has made it where we have to clock out for 30 minutes no matter what and we cant clock out 30 minutes early. Now they have made it where we have to come in at 3 and and leave at 10:30. We are full time employees, with part time hours... I dont understand why they are doing this. Can they get in trouble?

I swear I didn't say anything stupid. She only asked me 3 questions and then said, "We'll let you know."

What the crap? It wasn't like a high profile jarb or anything like that.

i've been working at a company that has pretty much gone above and beyond to make me happy. when they laid off over 500 people, i was lucky enough to have supervisors believe in me so much that they were able to juggle me around just so that i stayed. but now, i'm being offered a job that would be a LITTLE BIT more money. should i go for it or should i keep being loyal to those who have been loyal to me?

You are the bookkeeper at a small merchandising firm. You are comparing the income statements from the last three years. You notice the Purchases Returns and Allowances account (as a percentage of net sales) has been increasing at an alarming rate. If you were a manager, who would you speak to in the organization to help you understand why so much merchandise is being returned

Okay, here's the situation. I recently got a medical condition which caused me to leave work on short term disability. My disability was approved through the insurance company and I have been getting payments from my employer. My disability is still ongoing and is up for review again in two weeks. I got a certified letter today from my employer stating that they are rehiring for my position, that I will continue to get paid on disability, but once my doctor releases me, I would have to reapply to get a job within the organization. So essentially, I have been let go, but will continue to get benefits/pay as long as I am on disability.

This not only seems unfair to me, but seems illegal.

I recently found out that I am pregnant. My husband and I had already planned that I would quit my job after having the baby, but recently I have become more and more emotional and it is making it near impossible for me to make it through the day at work. Not to mention that I feel nauseated and my house is an utter pig sty. My husband told me that he's okay with whatever I decide. I know that we could live on his income alone, but I'm just scared to quit. What should I do?

Ok i am a new grad, just got my RN liscense two weeks ago. Posted my resume and applied to about 10 hospitals already and not one call back. Is it appropriate to go in a suit and tie and visit HR and say hey GIMMIE A JOB!!! (j/k) but i would say something profesional.

Also, what else can i do to help get me my first job in a new career. My resume looks horrible with almost no work experience (and im 25). most of my work has been under the table.

so any help besides "keep at it, bud" would be appreciated

I took a promotion and now my husband has been offered a position with his company to relocate to a different state. He accepted. However, they still have not moved me into my new position and plan on doing so in 2 weeks (8 weeks after I accepted). I'm not sure what to do. I am afraid to tell them that I will be leaving (given the circumstances that they think I will be changing departments) in the next month because we just bought a house and we need as much income as possible. I would love to tell them so they could search for another candidate as long as I knew my current job was secure until I needed to leave.

So what do you suggest? Tell and deal with the consequences? Or use give 2 weeks? I feel I should tell them before they move me to my new position because a week after moving to the new dept, I would have to put in my 2 weeks. But telling them too early could be risky for me! HELP!

I can not reily on my husband to find work he has been unemployed since November. I am pregnant and looking for work, but I do not know that anyone would hire someone that is seven months along. I have an associates degree and I was only 26hrs from having my BS degree in Biology. I have some computer skills, but I am not sure if it is enough to get me hired and I need something that pays enough to pay the bills and our mortgage payment. I have been a homemaker for three years and need to get back into the work force is there anything I can do to help me get hired at a decent wage in my current situation?

So,at work,we keep getting worksheets to do during work hours to 'sharpen our skills' (or words to that effect). We being my entire group (I work for a corporate office)/class of people that do the same job as me (at least 20-30 of us).

I get nothing but praise at work and I've never been told to speed up or any such thing. I HAVE only had the job since very late January, though. ...Should I be paranoid and worried that I'm doing a lousy job (despite the praise and my own opinion that I do well?) or are they just practice sheets to hone our 'skills' since we're so new? I've -never- worked for a corporate office before...so any help is appreciated. I just feel a bit in the dark.

I adore my job, though. I'd hate to lose it.
