What kind of questions would I ask of a witness? I have to do a mock trial in school, i'm very nervous. I don't really know what kind of questions a lawyer asks.i don't want to go up there and sound like a complete idiot

Go to the courthouse and see if there is a courtroom where the public can sit in. If not, ask around the hall if there is an attorney, public defender, city prosecutor there who could give you some pointers. Remember, they all started where you are right now. I know you may find some who won't be helpful, but I'm sure there will be someone. When you get through the pressure of completing this task, e-mail me & let me know how it turned out for you. I'm also interested in the proceedings of a mock trial & how they work exactly. Thanx & good luck to you.

Plenty of lawyers are complete idiots, so don't worry about that. Lawyers are people and people ask questions. You are a person too. Just go in there and sort of act human.

Its not so much what to ask but how you ask it. Stand and talk with confidence. Make it sound like your going somewher with this. Hold a piece of paper like your holding a bomb. This will lower their confidence and sound like their lying. Ask 2 or 3 related questions and then one from a unrelated angle. Don't let them get balanced. ie; whats your relationship with this person? why were you there this time? what was playing on the radio on the way there? Don't let them think
