If you don't keep the information confidential you are opening yourself to a lawsuit if word gets back to the person who didn't get the job.

I dont get the question? Are you asking if you should tell people like your boss that your co-worker got a transfer, because no one knows it yet? Or are you asking if you should answer if anyone asks you?

The proper response is to tell the curious to ask the person directly......You may need to clean up your wording - I'm just guessing this answers you.
