I fix people's computers as a hobby: hardware and software related problems. The other day I charged a guy $80 for about three and a half hours of work, where I had to fix some connection issues he had. Do you feel like I overcharged him? Should I charge more? A reduction in price for next time (I am going again tomorrow)? Discuss.

Actually $80 for a fixed computer is about right. Try to get it in cash bills.

I would leave the pricing alone if possible.

Also how happy is he? If he is happy or even if he is not complaining .. absolutely don't mess with the fee.

Once a price is out on the table is very rude to demand/ask for more. And you are leaving money on the table to reduce the price unless he pounds on you.

Well, I don't know what you did nor how well you did it. If you don't know how it could be done faster, then you are approaching professional.

A professional would have charged double at least $160 and felt guilty about charging over $200 .. although the labour might have been worth it but With older gear, but the gear is not.

sometimes you can do something like:

So at certain points, people trade gear .. say mister, why don't I trade you this used working computer for your broken one and $80. then you go home and hopefully fix (stress free) the broken one. This gives you more leverage.

Remember the difference between a hobby and a business according to the IRS. Ones hobby becomes a business once the main goal is to profit.
I'd let some of you clients decide, you may find that they may be willing to pay more.
