I'm not talking about certification, which means specialty or mastery of skills and knowledge, but certificate, which is more about a specific course completion and details the education that you had. Do these certificates really boost my resume and make me look more appealing to employers even though my diploma already includes the courses that I have certificates in?

I am a licensed insurance agent (life and P&C), working at a very small insurance company in California, and I am making $10/per hour, roughly less than half of the average pay for someone of my certifications in my area. I recently read an article stating that a good way to get a raise is to lead a special project that really shows results. The thing is, while I would be more than willing to lead such a project, I am more than a little discouraged by the fact that I can't actually think of such a project. Even if I lead a project, it will be the person who brings the IDEA of the project up, that gets a raise.
I want that person to be me.
Any ideas on a special project that can help increase business in our agency?

Where can I find information about different salary "grades"? I applied for a position today and it lists its compensation as a "Grade 5" - what does that mean? Is there a website that would help me learn more about this? I live in MN.

I am intersted in joining the peace corps. I know you really dont make any money but they cover your living expenses. After you serve your time does this experience count as work experience. I mean if you get a job 2 year later, did you work for two years or "take 2 years off", in corpoartions eye? No one seems to be able to answer this questions. Will companies treat you with the work expierence you only had in the states or the work expierence you had abroad? I might apply to go get MBA after my times as well? And was curious of the result.

It seems as though every job I undertake, I always end up being screwed in the end. Employers always what you to do the most out of your 8hrs. It seems as though they what you do be at constant motion all the time without rest, except for the 15 min mandatory break.

I know I sound like a lazy person but I assure you I am not. Every job that I undertake I always figure out a way to do it faster and with less energy. I love logistics and operations, so speeding things is my hobby. Thus, every job that I have, I found a way to do it faster and with less effort.

The fu*ked up part about this is that I now have plenty of free time. I've cut an 8hrs job to 4hrs and now I have nothing to do. Instead of giving me a raise or a pat on the back, they give me more work, work like helping others who are not so good or interested in what they do. If I solve that person's problem as well, then they send me off to another person.

Should I say screw it and just act dumb and not improve?

I am a Business Manager from Costa Rica, 25 years old and fully bilingual ( English-Spanish ). I currently work for a multinational consultant company and I love my job, however I feel like I need to work on an outdoor job like working on a ranch, or working on a little port of some small town in europe, working on a little town of Ireland, New Zeland, Australia, I need to do something different now that I have no family or responsabilities on my personal life... Please help me with ideas or with anyone or any organization I could contact in order to work on this kind of jobs... My actual monthly salary is of 8000 USD, I am willing to earn from 2500 up in order to do what I have in mind... Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

It seems as if recruiters are more interested in Business Intelligence and usurping each other than they are at recruiting interviewees here in Richmond and Glen Allen, Virginia...

They almost ALWAYS ask where you have interviewed and what companies you just left did...They are searching for new clients and seem to have no interest in getting people in front of companies at all.

What should you say at a job interview when the interviewer/manager asks you what is your greatest weakness?

Also, what should you say is your greatest strength? What can you say to "Wow" them so that you will get the job by answering both of those questions.

Thanks!

I will cut a long story short!

My boss said i was made redundant. I sent a letter to him to appeal for unfair dismissal. We had a meeting and now they are saying they didnt make me redundant but they sacked me. I was at the company 11 months, but including my months notice they give me it works out at 1 year and 1 day!

Am i entitled to take them to a tribunal for "dismissal for not following disciplinary procedures?

Thanks everyone.

I recently finished my floral design courses and am quite discouraged by the starting wage employers are offering. I not expecting to get rich working within the industry, but the average wage so far is $8 hourly (CAN). I realize that one has to work their way up, but really who can live on that and be able to save for a rainy day. When you have paid alot of money to take the nessarry courses, where is the financial gratification in the long run? I make more money serving tables which is a no brainer. Floral design is an art and takes creative tallant to be good at what you do. Not that I would call myself an artist yet, I have a long way to go, but I know people who have been in the business a long time, and arn't nearly paid what they deserve. Any imput would be appreciated!

im 21 and me and my fiance moved into our house about 2 months ago. Well yesterday we got told we need a pipe replacing because of a leak we have any way to save some money we have dug up our yard ourselves (cause pipe needs to go through our yard) anyway that saved us about £200. But its still gonna cost us about £800 which is allot of our savings. So we want a few ideas to build our saving up we both work 8 - 5.30 week days. My fiance has just got a weekend job today any ideas for me? I thought a cleaning job but my fiance thinks I will be tired doing that as well as my full time job and it will mean leaving our dog more. So any ideas? I thought maybe selling stuff on ebay but I cant upload pictures and only have internet access at my mum and dads.
Thanks for any ideas.
