Over my life, I have had 5 jobs and only one came via a job interview (and that was at toys-r-us!!!). I think I must have failed at about twenty interviews in my life.

I dress well, speak appropriately, have a shower beforehand and prepare answers for potential questions. What am I doing wrong?

It has now destroyed my confidence for any interview? How can I get this back?

What do you need to do at the interview to impress?

Is there a good book or course that I can go on?

I just applied at Sears online. After 30 minutes of answering questions, etc, the online application asked me when I am available for interview? Does this happen a lot? This is what I got:

"You are about to schedule an interview on 1/22/2007 at 11:30 AM. Please confirm. When you come back for your interview, you should go to HR office!"

Do they usually give interview dates that soon?

Hi,

My query might sound a bit philosophical to some. I have always been an above average person in most spheres of life and am currently looking for a job change. Happened to look at career opportunities on the website of a renowned international organization which offers really exciting career opportunities. But the literature (particularly the adjectives) on their website seems to suggest that they want nothing but the best…now the demons in my mind have begun to hold me back…I know I am a decent performer and can work hard if the situation/condition demands but never been the best in any one thing at anytime in my life.

Secondly I don’t meet the EXACT requirements of any particular profile but have some knowledge and desire to work in some areas.. should I even try ? Is it wrong for an above average person to dream big ?

I really need an online job. It is so stressful for me to go to work. My blood pressure has gone up from 147/90 to 168/109. I have to work but everytime I get a job there is always "someone" that gives me a hard time, or I should say "hates me". I can't deal with the ridiculousness of "office politics". I am a good worker, always on time, I don't fool around, very dependable, which I have been told in almost every job I have ever had.
But for some reason because of the "bulliness" of the so called "office routine", or better known as "office politics" I am just not getting anywhere.
I am just so stressed out. It seems like there is always someone looking for every little, tiny, mistake or flaw I may have to bully me.
I don't know what to do, I have to work, but the office "bulliness" is going to kill me.
Does anyone know of an online job that does not deal with selling. Medical transcription or appointment setting.
Please help me. Please.

I interviewed with a company today and the interview went so well that they almost instantly decided to ask me back for a 2nd interview on Tuesday.

I'm working on a thank you letter to the hiring manager and I'm planning to address the manager by her first name (in the letter).

My reasoning for using her first name is that they are on a first name basis in the office.

What do you think? Should I be using her first name in the letter or her last name?

When I was considering doing a PhD all the people I consulted (careers advisers, my professor, friends and family) said it was a fantastic opportunity. The money was much better than I would have been offered as a graduate engineer in research and development….so who would have said no.

After much hard work and some prizing winning research, I completed my PhD two years ago. However, I am still yet to find a decent job. On a weekly basis, I search the internet for relevant jobs and approach every relevant company I can but no luck. I don’t want to stop hunting as it means I have wasted 5 years of my life on research and a further 2 years searching for a job.

How long is too long to continue searching? If I stop looking what can do I do next? Is there a place for all those people who couldn’t find a career after their PhD?

Ok, so I decided to not go to college RIGHT NOW. (I will a little later.) But I work at Hallmark, making minimum wage. I need a full time job... but I have no ideas. I don't want anything in food service. I was hoping someone could suggest a few job ideas to search for. Thanks!

Basically, she has it in for me, she is sleeping with the boss & gets away with murder. She has been bitching to all my workmates about me & has tried to get me into trouble for things I didn't do. My boss's boss knows they have a "relationship" going & hasn't done anything to stop it. It is not fair that she gets certain "privelidges" when the rest of us don't. I didn't initially have a problem with her "relationship" but it is affecting me now. I have never done anything to make her not like me (and she really doesn't!) but if this keeps up, then sooner or later I will be out of a job.
I have tried being nice to her (& she is usually as nice as pie back, in a fake kind of way) but she still really has it in for me.
What do I do? Any suggestions?

have recently turned 17 and have always planned to get a good education and have a rewarding job in some business industry (parent expectation). At 13 yrs old i started listening to rap & hiphop music and immediatly to a liking to it, becoming influenced by the music and its artists. Turning 16 i started to take rapping into a consideration for a career as i started rapping at home and friends houses.I know of the complications and difficulties of getting into the hip hop industry and becoming a rapper, but still want to pursue the career cause of the passion and skill i have for the music. is it worth contuining at 17?
