Staffing and retention are major issues in service industry businesses today. These issues are especially serious to the service industry for two reasons: First, the industry doesn't have the excitement of the high-tech industries (even though many have now fallen on hard times). Second, the number of employees between the ages of 25 and 44, traditionally the main part of the employees in the business, will continue to drop.
Under this situation, how does the service industry not only recruit new talent, but protect the employees they have? Questions about payment, training, incentives, benefits and work environment will therefore become more important.

Questions:

1) The author says the service industry is unexciting.
A True
B False

2) Most employees in the service industry are over 44 years old.
A True
B False
C Can't tell from the text

3) In the last paragraph, talent means___.
A employees
B environment
C business

I think the right answers are:
1) B
2) B
3) A

Am I right?thanks

I want to make more than 90K after a minimum of 5 -7 years of experience. I read that it is better money in Auditing, but you travel 50% of the time. I have two kids. If i choose auditing, and have to travel, may I bring my family along, do most employers assist with the expense or no, probably not, but it wouldnt hurt to ask. So whats better, internal or external auditing or plain accountant...leading to controller.

How do you like it? Is it easy to transfer in to from the advertising/marketing/comm field? What is the best way to break into the field? Are the hours long? What types of people have you worked with - in the office, not your client base?

I'm a manager at my job and work with 3 other managers, 2 of which were not qualified for the job. They have not been pulling their weight. I left them each a note on their desk letting them know that they didn't to prep their ad the other night, which made my job much harder the next morning and to inform them that we all need to keep up on it. I left them a note because it is an ONGOING problem since they all stepped into the position. Of course, they were all angry that I did so (one of the co-workers is one of those types of women that think they're the queen of everything). Next, I got into a huge fight with a supervisor (won't go into details, but she really really got under my skin) over the issue.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

I have been interviewing for this Job for the past three weeks. I was told that I am in, but I needed to do an employees evaluation study before I officially get hired in. Last week, did turned in my report and met again with the owner. He told me that I am in. However, he needs to figure out where he is going to use me, and his HR will contact me by the end of the week. Did not hear from them so I called the Human Resources (HR) manager yesterday he told he will call me by the end of the day, or this morning - so far nothing yet...!!!

I always see things like work from home ads or paid surveys but you have to pay for them. Is there another way to earn an extra income without having to pay and if not which are the best ones that wont try to scam me.

I mean I love him and all but enough is enough. He drives a semi truck, which is a skill most dont have. But somehow he manages to find jobs that only last 3-4 months at a time. Then he takes 2 months to find another job, again it last 3-4 months...so he says!

Is he just lazy and satisfied with having very little money or is the truck driving industry this unpredictable or what!!!!!!!

This friend, who I am interested in pursuing a further relationship uses my office cell phone to call drug dealers, and when questioned she always is concerned with "Who told you?" Never answers the drug question. Acutally continually denies the use of drugs. I want to trust her, but I know what I know. Tell me how I can find out for sure. What signs should I look for. I want to catch her red handed or red nosed. I have very good sources, but I cannot divulge info with increminating them.

I was hired for a position. although i did not sign any papers I was given a starting date. when that starting date arrived, I was called that day and told my position was given to another employee. I understand the at-will employee thing however i never signed any documents bringing the at-will employee to effect. Is this employment discrimination?

I work for a financial company (insurance & pensions) now since 15 months. The job is extremely comfortable & fairly easy but the chances for career progression are not great. i wanna get to accounting or maybe banking fairly soon. However, the thing is with this job it's so easy & smooth that I feel lazy to apply for other jobs. My pay is OK, but definitely will not be content with it forever.
I am also getting married next month & am going to bring my wife her from abroad( arranged marriage). When do u think I should make a job change. Sometimes I have this urge to get a new job but sometimes I feel it's so easy & it's really easy earned money. Lot of time at work I surf the net, am away from desk & even gamble online. But I have been told that I am someone with potential & should get a much better job. What u think?

here, seems to be hogging all the work. The Dr I work for rang me and asked me to book a consultation room for him and because the details I have are only limited, this colleague of mine has taken it in her own hands and has now phoned the Dr to tell him of another room she knows about and which I obviously have no idea about (as I'm new). Shall I just keep quiet? She's about 55+ and I'm aged 35.
