How does that work? What happened?

Some say education is essential for a good career, others say it takes street smart to climb the ladder. Aside from the extreme cases (bill gates and some 37 yrs old PHD jobless). What do you really think? How important is it to have a college degree?

I quit job immed. to go to another job, got laid off. Filed for unemployment. Benefits kicked back to first job because i didn't make enough money at other job. Can I be denied unemployment because I didn't give notice to first job? Do I legally have to give notice before I quit in order to collect unemployment?

he said that whenever an employee calls don't ask 4 where they r what they're doing just give the phone call 2 the person he's asking 4. I wanted to know where he's at in case someone asks. i just wanted 2 be on top of things. i don't like to say "i don't know". & the other day there was a new employee and the boss failed 2 inform us that there he hired a new guy. he was supposed 2 start @9. he came in at 9:30. So, i said so u'r late, in a playful tone. I said that while i was punching him in and wrote his name on his time card. i thought i was being friendly. so the person that was charging at me said all you have to do is "SIT THERE ANSWER THE PHONE AND LOOK PRETTY" that was the part where i was offended. i didn't say anything, just let him talk. was trying 2 get 2 the bottom of it but he wouldn't let me. I went to accounting school, although answering the phone is part of my job description, that's not all i do and i feel like i was stereotyped. what do you think?

What if you changed your name, if you tell your last boss will they most likely be cool about it & just use your new name as if that was the name they knew you as, or will they feel the need to tell the new boss that your old name was XXXX. ?
It's just a little embarassing (I mean changing first names, I switched my middle and first name).

I left my 2 main references (most recent) at a recent job interview. The boss said she will contact me Monday or Tuesday (to tell me if I got the job I assume!). It was just a form where you had to list jobs and supervisor's name & number and check "yes" it's ok for them to contact them.

I found out though that both of these references are traveling for the next 2 weeks (it's a conference in the same field). I have their cell numbers but I don't think I should give those out (unless absolutely have to).

If she can't contact them, will she tell me & allow me to rectify it or just toss my application? She seemed really interested in me ...... if I get a good call Mon or Tue does that mean it's OK?

Like she wouldn't let me start working and then say on Friday "oh by the way, I can't contact your reference, you'd better fix that?"

thanks.

My boyfriend is about to make a life changing decision, but he is afraid to give up his engineering major for a math and psychology double major because he doesn't know what he can do with it. I believe the change would be good for him but I need something tangible to share with him. Thanks in advance :)

Just curious. I am thinking it would look too eager. I only send thank you notes after in-person interviews. But, I have noticed lately that there seems to be more rounds to the phone interviewing process.

You have a Job ( Job A) where you are a receptionist and you love it, the managment over you is the best ones you've ever had! You are more of a team than manager employee. The bosses right hand. There has recently been change to the company so hopefully your facility will start making money instead of loosing it. In doing so will be cause for promotions and raises. And There is room for growth when the company can open up another position. You know it's yours, but that may not be til january or longer. The only problem is that bills are a little behind, and you don't make whole heck of a lot.

NOw, Job B... You submitted your resume to a palce where they start at 1600 a month. $500 more than you make now. The only thing is you don't know anyone at the company or how the managment is. However there is opportunity to become an escrow assistant within a year. Starting as a receptionist now. They want to interview you. But you have not yet responded to their request because you're torn.

Do you saty at JOB A?
Do you interview with JOB B on the downlow?
Do you politley decline JOB B?

What would you do?

Scenario: A person interviews for a job position and does really well. In fact, s/he does so well that s/he advanced to the third and fourth stages of the interview process. However, after the third (or fourth) interview, s/he gets rejected. The person asks the recruiter (or human resources person) why s/he was rejected, and the recruiter never really gives an honest answer. Why is that?

I am reosrt operations manager and I have a manager who has been the subject of the topic as far as not getting things done. There have been instances where a group comes in the next morning and thier meeting room is not ready and I have to pull myself fromother groups and get the job done for her. I had a talk with her but this happened a gain when a B&B did not have a place to have breakfast the morning after their arrival. She spends alot of time on the phone and does not spend time outside with the guests as much as I woul like her to. She has a monotone attitude and I wish I could help her to improve herself in this area. I am meeting with her this afternoon and I want to approach her in a manner where she does not feel I am picking on her and I want her to leave the office knowing and confidant that I want her to stay, but I also want to get my point across in the areas she needs to improve. Please help. I appreciate any advice.

Because many fans of football, baseball, etc. are youngsters, would it endanger or enhance the efforts of law enforcement?

Football Great Wants Justice
At 4 am on June 12, 2005, 30-year-old Scott White was gunned down during a botched robbery. His killers are unidentified, and there are few leads to go on. But Scott's family has a new weapon in their search for justice: NFL legend, Bernie Kosar.
It started with a chance encounter between Bernie and an old friend -- AMW Correspondent John Turchin, who's known the Super Bowl-winning quarterback since Bernie was a star at the University of Miami. When John ran into Bernie recently he told him about the case he was working on: the unsolved murder of Scott White. John mentioned that Scott's family was originally from Cleveland, and have been lifelong fans of the Browns, where Bernie played for years.
That's all Bernie had to hear -- he immediately offered to help in any way he could. On Saturday's show you'll see Bernie Kosar.

I am out of school at the moment and have not yet been able to find a job. I have searched online (those sites sometimes give the run around), done applications at stores (such as Walmart and Target), done a couple online (Best Buy, Party City, and Phillips Arena).
I have not worked in a retail store before, but I have a fairly decent work background, but mainly done workstudy work on school campuses.
I rather work in some casual (sort of dress down) retail store, so I can be around more people and interacting, rather sitting in an office getting sleepy often. I definitely not interested in food spots, because I will get sick from to much aroma.
I may have to apply again to the places I have already done, but I am getting frustrated, because if I do not get to working I will be out of college for a while....so if anyone have some great ideas for the Atlanta South area or some in the Atlanta Metro will be good.
My main problem is that I do not drive and transportation is an issue.
