It's far too big and does not look smart at all. Should I shut up and wear it and look like a donkey or should I insist that I'm provided with a uniform which fits me?

The problem is I'm so small, I need kids size. So it would have to be specially made.

If you are a permanent employee then they should provide you with a uniform that fits. The fact that you are a non-standard size is irrelevant, and by law they have to treat you the same as everyone else.

Politely tell your line manager that the uniform is the wrong size. Presumably they give you a uniform either so you look smart for the company or to keep you clean & safe. Either way, point out that the uniform does not do its job if it does not fit!

Tell them politely you think they've got the size wrong and could they please sort it out as you son't want to create the wrong impression especially if your dealing with the public. You may find theres just been a mistake somewhere along the line. We had the same when all are staff were issued with new uniform. A pair of trousers for a guy who is quite skinny turned up big enough to fit two of our HR department in! (literally- we've seen the photos)
One of my other colleagues is very small and wears kids size clothes frequently. Her uniform had to be especially made for her, it took some time but there was no problem about having to do it.

Just speak to your supervisor/manager and explain to them that you don't feel comfortable wearing a uniform that doesn't fit properly. Be polite and just tell them that if you had a uniform that fit you properly you feel you would look more smart. I would definately say something, because you never know they may be thinking what you are thinking - that you don't look smart, but they are not going to say anything because they might think that you may be offended. So speak up, what is the worst that can happen? They can only say no which I very much doubt they would and if they do then go speak to someone within the company that is in a higher position!

I think neither beacause just if everyone else is wearing that uniform doesn't mean that you have to. I personally think that you should still wear your uniform. But get one that fits. And if the uniforms are that ugly. Then you should turn that outfit from "geek" to "chic" and be the best looking. Trust me I know because I work at the Christian Hospital and I hate wearing those ugly uniforms. So I jazzed mine up and it looks great! I did a good job ecspecially since I'm a good fashion designer.

Of course you should ask for uniform that fits you better.

If you get it or not I think depends on who you work for.

I have to wear a uniform for work. we can order in sizes from 8 - 30 for women.

But we can also special order if someone is very tall, short, fat thin, long limbs, short body etc. We provide our measurements and uniform is made to measure.

Ask for one that fits you. Explain to them that you wear their uniform to promote the place you work and it does not give a good impression of the company if they provide you with illfitting clothes.

wearing a uniform usually means you are facing the public. as a representative of the company looking like you have been dragged through a hedge backwards won't give the right message to the public. explain to the boss you feel silly and would like it altered

Well, they are probably not going to have one specially made for you but you could ask. Maybe you could invest in having it altered yourself? If you didn't have a uniform you'd surely have to spend money on new outfits, so it's the same thing.
