You are not wrong - it's a crazy world. Competence and hard work are not assets any more. The UK is especially like this. Daft equal opportunity ideas are just being abused by folk who can't be bothered working themselves.

If you're someone they know they can go-to, your value becomes known, albeit not as fast as you'd like it to be. Hang in there, be professional, do the work as best as you can. If another company finds out about you and tries to lure you away, your present employer may have a cow and do what they can to keep you.

That CAN be the case, but you can't be done that way unless you allow it. You know the work rules. Without over-stepping them to the point of termination, stand up for yourself---don't be a door mat.

It's called responsibility. If you can do it and improve the company, what's the problem? The more experience in an industry, the more knowledgeable you become. If you can't handle it, change industries.

I'd agree. Intelligent people are always under more pressure because they are expected to be more responsible, perfect, etc.
