I live in Illinois, and i have heard a rumor that if you are scheduled to work and have been sent home in a day that is NOT your fault, they must pay you at least 4 hours pay. I was wondering if this is true and if so, where info on this might be.

My employer told me some lies about why they gave a new guy of another race priority in which shifts he wanted to work. The problem is that they had me working second on Sunday, third on Monday and Tuesday, and coming in for second on Wednesday and Thursday. (I would get off at 7 a.m. on Wednesday AND come back at 3 p.m. the same Wednesday.) The new guy got to work thirds on Wednesday through Sundays. His shifts are the exact same ones that I was promised before he interviewed. Once the individual in question showed up for interview, he got the shifts he wanted, not me. I was given the excuse that it was b/c he had another job in which required him to have those nights. When I found out that this was a lie, I confronted my supervisor who then said that he would check in on it. When I checked back with him, he never did, but promised to do it. This happened several times. After almost falling to sleep behind the wheel in broad daylight a few times going to and from work, I felt like I had no choice but to quit. Now my employer says that I can go back, IF I apologize for claiming discrimination. I feel that by having to apologize, that this is like saying that I had no right to claim discrimination in the first place. Can they do this? What should I do?

I'm considering becoming a psychologist but have no experience whatsoever in an professional office setting. My parents and basically everyone I've grown up around work in blue collar jobs. I have nothing but respect for them and I fit into that category at the moment. The thing is, I"m just afraid I'm going to be at a disadvantage in the business world since I haven't been around it my whole life like some have. Is this anything to be concerned about or am I worrying over nothing?

i graduated from HS early so i'm only 17 and in college. Does college still count as "day school" on my working papers. I have enough free time where only being allowed to work 28 hours a week is extremely inconvenient and i'm hoping i can apply for the permit that will allow me to work 48 hours a week,

i've been working in an auto assembly work in the last job for over 5 years. The condition for me was so bad that now, i'm not in the best shape physically, to do any kind of heavy work.
I'd like to do something that i can do untill i retire...which is about 20 odd years to go.

I've been off work to take care of my body for the last 5 months now. I'm still not all that well, yet.

So, now i'm on UI, and will be going to career training. I hope to find something suitable for me to do now.

I hope that someone might be in similar situation or, have some advice or, some experiences that you can share, thanks again!

Justin

I work in an environment where every job class makes a different salary (naturally) but the company officials pay some shift workers $1.00 per hour shift pay and some workers $1.75 per hour shift pay. We are all working the same shift (3 pm to 11 pm). Is this legal?

Ok, it seems like alot of people have the same type of question. so here goes.

I was offered a job with a base salary of 30,000, that's base, it's a sales job and could go up. the job requires I work M-F 8-6 and every other saturday 8-12. This would be a no brainer, but it has been my dream to become a pilot. I was planning on attending flight school. The problem... Classes start at 6, and I am not guarenteed to get out of work on time. The other thing is, saturday mornings have classes 9-12.

So as you can see, I have to make a decision... That much money seems like a fortune to me, being right out of college. But I would have to put my dream on hold. What does everyone think? Try for a better accomidating job with probably less pay, or follow my dream?

It's a big step.

1. Can I think as 'outside the box' as they need me to?
2. Is this the company I see myself with in 10 yrs?
3. How can I apply my distribution knowledge in this new environmental field?
4. How can I prove my worth to my bosses?
5. How can I grow professionally (learn ACT, Quickbooks, etc)?

I am completing my second month for this company, this is his second day. Imput?
