Careers & Employment - August 2006

At work, I am absolutely terrible at ending a phone call. I either cut the person off too quickly with a 'bye' and hang the phone up, or there is an awkward silence as I'm waiting for them to begin the call-ending, and vice-versa.

If ending a phone call is like a dance, I think I am inclined to step on the feet of the other caller.

i want to find a career in vet medicine that i can really, really enjoy. i've worked with a lot of clinical vets, but most of them were real jerks and penny-pinchers. i want a job that i can wake up and be excited to go to work for, b/c i love animals, but apparently loving animals isn't enough to make you love your job. at least that's what the vets i've worked for have shown me.

It is part-time, and in retail, it was to open a new type busniess. i'm seeing the same things in this job that were in my old job, exmaple favortism, but kissing etc,etc I know that it is common, but how things are handle here is very diff and very rude, They let go this empolyee who needed the job more than me, ( she was recnetlty homeless) go , if she wanted to stay with the company she had to call other stores to see if there is an opening, Is that a mangers job to ? An asst mgr job went to an 18yr who never work a day in his life, while others with more experince were bypass. I know it was just temporay i wasn't sure i was going to stay with them or let go until yestday while erveyone esle knew where or what they were doing. To make it short Should i leave or should I stay? I'll take any advice or thoughts A BIG THANK YOU!

( I still have about 2 months left of unempolyment benfits )

I work as an admissions advisor at a university. Well this student who is in his mid 40's kept trying to flirt with me. He kept asking me my age which is 24. He kept telling me that would love to get married again when i would ask him about his long term goals. He kept asking for my direct number over and over. He said he wishes i was in my 30's because i sounded so mature for my age. I told one of colleagues about it and they thought that it was disguting. However, i really need this enrollment since 7 are due each month and this my third week at this job.

I have a degree in Criminal Justice and I want to work with kids. I applied for the state and county jobs ie. probation, corrections, youth counselor. But now I'm looking for other jobs like working in group homes, but when I do a search for jobs in group homes or even the group home webpage I can't see to find anything. What is another title I could look under to find what I want to do. Or even suggestions to as to what else I can do.

I am a registered nurse in a hospital and work 12 hours a day 3 days weekly. The job is very stressful. I work 2 days on and 3 days off. Kids are grown and I would just like to try something a little different. Any suggestions?

, ., . My first job was working in an Orange Juice factory, but I got canned. I couldn't concentrate.

2. Then I worked in the woods as a Lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the axe.
3. After that, I tried to be a Tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it - mainly because it was a sew-sew job.
4. Next, I tried working in a Muffler Factory, but that was too exhausting.
5. Then, I tried to be a Chef - figured it would add a little spice to my life, but I just didn't have the thyme.
6. I attempted to be a Deli Worker, but any way I sliced it I couldn't cut the mustard.
7. My best job was a Musician, but eventually I found I wasn't noteworthy.
8. I studied a long time to become a Doctor, but I didn't have any patience.
9. Next, was a job in a Shoe Factory. I tried but I just didn't fit in.
10. I became a Professional Fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't live on my net income.
11. I managed to get a good job working for a Pool Maintenance Company, but the work was just too draining.
12. So then I got a job in a Workout Center**, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.
13. After many years of trying to find steady work! , I finally got a job as a Historian - until I realized there was no future in it.
14. My last job was working in Starbucks, but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.
15. SO, I TRIED RETIREMENT AND FOUND THAT I'M PERFECT FOR THE JOB!** *

All I can say is, I feel belittled so much for everything that I can't sleep and can't cope with life in general and can barely do my job. But to discuss this with someone over the person's head (in a nice, non-blaming way) can mean the person will hate me more once he/she finds out that he/she has been "reported" (though I don't mean it like that). However, keeping silent means more living in fear and depression.

So...stay silent and don't make problems, or nicely tell someone over his/her head and hope for the best? Gulp. I could be blamed more and not believed or person could make up a story to counter mine. I could really be let go for this or bashed more.
